Players losing it all and quitting - sure, their fault but not good for the game.

I totally agree that Elite is way too punitive and leaves out some potential options to realistically compromise on this with players.

Long story short, I am aware of the rebuy cost and always keep enough. I played countless hours for a month, blowing up Anacondas/Dropships with my Viper, saving up for an ASP. I bought an ASP & got my thrusters knocked out and had to scuttle. Used my buy back $$. Right after, while building up my buy back $$, I was killing a missioned/wanted dropship and the feds/police ships joined the fight and got in the way of one of my shots just as they always do. I got a $200 bounty (nothing). After the fight, at the exact moment that I pulled into a station to pay my bounty/resupply, I was scanned and then immediately blown up by the station with no chance of survival. My problem: MY $8MM SHIP WAS BLOWN UP WITH NO WARNING BY A STATION FOR A $200 BOUNTY...............SERIOUSLY????? You have got to be kidding me. There is a difference between making a game realistic/challenging/fun & making a game insanely punitive and making people not want to continue because of that.

I did submit a general ticket a week or so ago to Frontier but have not heard back, i'm sure they are crazy busy, but I do feel like I should get my ship or $$ back.

Game suggestions to Fix/Compromise: 1) If a player cannot afford to rebuy their ship at the time of their death, make it so when that player goes into the ship buying screen that that ship is listed with their equipment, and only at the cost of the rebuy. This is a compromise. 2) if a player is immobilized in space, there is a 'distress beacon/get a tow' button they can hit which costs them some $$ (or puts them in the negative/loan) but loads them to the nearest station. This is more realistic than having no options and having to blow up your expensive ship.

Anyway, I sincerely hope that Frontier is listening to posts like this and makes the game less insanely-punitive, and also hope to get my ship back which I do feel I got stiffed on. I really like this game but got really turned off by this and i'm not sure if I will restart.

Thank you,
Jordan

Insane as it might seem, people love Elite exactly for that.

Considering the amout of time its taken me to get to just 5 million credits and a Type 6 i can honestly say that if at any point i was to lose everything and have to start again i would not probably quit.
I would probably sell start again, sell my Free eagle, use the money to kit my Sidewinder out as much as possible and then go on suicide runs just ramming people and being a general pain the back side.

Then when i die id just do it again, and again, and again.... just for fun like, because i couldnt be bothered with the grind again!

I could still have fun and not worry about any consequences if my ship splodes! :D

Funny thing was up to a type 6 there was no grind for me. Bounty hunting was more then enough to get my ships set up pretty nicely. Its after a type 6 the grind starts.

There is a lot of extremism in E: D. Have a $200 bounty? Death. Loiter in the mail box? Death. Loiter over the wrong landing pad because the landing GUI is glitched? Death. It's supposed to be a simulation (admittedly less serious than the hardcore flight sims), but I really hope future governments have more concern for human life and personal property than this! Also, when is the last time your car or boat EXPLODED when it ran out of fuel? Distress calls need to be returned to the game. I'd love the opportunity to sell a ton or two of fuel to a stranded player for a few hundred thousand credits (less than the rebuy of the big ships), or even offer a tow. Also, my character is wearing a space suit. Why can I not climb out of my ship and pull components from, for example, my weapons to get my thrusters back on line? Maybe this capability goes hand in hand with the upcoming first person aspects of the game? Hell, make a mini puzzle solving game out of the repairs, similar to hacking in Deus Ex.

And then there's the Security Services Goons, yes GOONS. YOU flew into MY line of fire! There have been multiple discussions on that topic on these forums an /r/EliteDangerous. That situation, of all the drivel I typed earlier, needs visited first. If I glance security services' shields with a shot or two and do zero actual damage, it should be a case of no harm no foul.

I realize that's 2 entire paragraphs of me complaining, but I really do enjoy the game. There are just several very clear items that could use some adjusting.

Edit:
Some love it.
Others quit.
Let's see how many will remain to hold the candle in a few month time...
That's a very valid point. I know this isn't a subscription based service, but it's in Frontier's best interest to keep the players from Rage Quitting (as much as I do enjoy those videos).

I have even seen posts where people claim not to have known they could lose everything, although I find that hard to comprehend.
If this is true then it proves the Elite Dangerous is too easy... because they were able to get very far in the game (presumably a Cobra or higher) without dying (while carrying cargo anyway).

Always enough and not being P2P doesn't really matter.
The game has a limited appeal, pays tribute to older way of making (and playing) games. Not exactly a siren for mainstream attention. Braben said it himself " Iwant to make the game I would want to play. No hand holding" and so on. I suggest you check the kickstarter site and the wiki, loads of info

sudden death is demoralising !

having suffered sudden death three times, because the game has flaws is difficult to get over. having bought the "finished" game I expected a smoother product.

the insurance is fine, but maybe the manual should stress that you can lose it all. having bought my first Asp and loaded it with 600,000 credits of palladium carefully using the docking computer to make sure I limited the mistakes and then it gets stuck on the edge of the landing pad and after two minutes of it trying to free itself, I nudged it forward it flipped over landed on the next pad earned a 400cr and then got destroyed. it had not completed one trading run ouch !!.

now I'm back working my way back up, wiser and poorer but with attitude.

I tried earning my credits in a Kitted Cobra for a bit doing bounty missions and patroling nav points but it didnt seem like I was earning enough credits per hour. Swapped to a Type 6 and i can make 138k in 5 mins.
My main goal is to get to an Asp, after that im not fussed, Asp is a good multi role ship that can hold a decent amount of cargo and hold its own in combat. I doubt ill earn enough to get an anaconda but if i can swap and change what i do in game at a whim without needed to buy another ship it should make the game feel more fun for me.

Asp is awesome, went your same route and being very happy. Still kitting it out, but I don't see myself changing ship in a long while. ESPECIALLY if you liked the cobra
