There are many topics about mission rewards, groups, relogging, combat logging, and of course griefing.
I do not want to judge anyone or tell them how they should play.
I would like to share with You with my opinion about playing with 'spirit of the game'. Why we have griefing? Why we have trolls? Is that our human nature? This is a fundamental question of who we really are, but i as i wrote, i would like to not judge.
What caused a community and playing game becomed toxic and who is most affected?
Unfortunately a game mechanics is fault. A game is encouraging players to cheating and brinding form them the worst primal instincts.
Lets take a look from a 'newbie' position. Our colleague who just joined the Elite, he want to play a multiplayer space ship game in difital world.
At first, if this player want to achieve *any* progress in *reasonable* time then he need to cheat. Yes, he need to stack missions. Few months ago players was brought up on using exploit at robigo and combat logging during scan, then they just need to stack passenger/combat/hauling/whatever mission through the relogging.
Ok then, lets back to the point, a short story:
Ok, our 'newbie' do not want to play that way because he is feeling this is not exactly right. Good, then he is flying in a universe full of Cutters, Vettes and people who are billionaires... well, he is taugh, he got his ASP or Python and he is trying to play fairly.
What is next? He is thinking - cool - community goals - i will try it! And what happening? Then he is being lured to the massive grindfest.. but there are some moneys so he is hauling a fish or biowaste.
During that hauling our newbie is bein interdicted by Cutter, of course destroyed (because our newbie is playing fair and do not combat logging), and then he need to pay 8 mln of rebuy, when earning from CG is around 5.
OK he thinks - i will try again. Then he is leaving a station and he is hearing 'target destroyed'... what? And station is killing him because he *incidentally* rammed a fighter-drone and got death sencence from a station. Yepp, another rebuy. Expensive for him, because he is playing fairly.
So then, game is encouraging to:
1. Cheating to make 100% fast enlarge of wallet and ranks. Stacking using relogo exploit.
2. Combat logging to avoid expensive rebuy
3. Ganking, bacause there is no punish for ganking, this is not a crime (and everyone have sacred right to be a ganker, but this should be connected with in-game consequences, like temporary lack of access to modules, weapons, ships, or destroying a ship by a strong police forces, some crime and punish system is needed, of course not everywhere in the galaxy... or temporary FSD ban for some systems, like a revoke permit)
4. Trolling, because there is a death sentence for ramming unmanned drone
5. Influenting on other group BGS through the stacking cheating in group/solo modes (to avoid a counter)
6. Gathering a progress/stuff/cash on private groups like Mobius /solo and using them with impunity against weaker players who are just trying TO PLAY A GAME FAIRLY for a God sake, in Open MMO mode, with other people.
Are humans bad? I think it depend in most of education, of how them were raised by parents. Our parents - FD - through the game mechanics and rules, taught us the cheating and using exploits is a good way to do fast progress and being more powerful.
Now tell me, is that famous 'spirit of the game'?
