PlayStation God of War (2018) Coming to PC in 2022

Yup...still want Ghost of Tsushima and The last of us to come over to the dark side though...and Horizon Forbidden west whilst you're still feeling all generous, Sony :D

Still think you'll be waiting a few years with how this is currently working. It's actually very good business doing it this way for Sony. Maybe the timeline will shrink over time.

This way though they'll sell consoles and more copies of the games.

If all PS5 games launched instantly on PC I wouldn't need a PS5 like many as I'd just buy the games on the PC.

Tell me again how consoles improved gaming by giving us 4 year delays between platforms and exclusives? :p
They don't but, Sony do like to sell consoles though and probably need to unlike Microsoft with their gamepass model. 🤷‍♂️

actually it would be more profitable for Sony to directly port to PC without any delay. Most consoles are manufactured at a loss, using game sales to compensate.
Sony, as does Microsoft and Nintendo, make their money by selling games, subscriptions and accessories.

Steam is in a very strong position. Having a lot of market share on PC gaming without the need to sell hardware and subscriptions, or even the need to develop games on their own (as they sustain themselves on the 30% of all game sales on their platform). Something other platform operators can only dream of. However, they earned that monopoly by experience and patience, not by aggressive anti-competitive means.

Sony aren't making a loss on the PS5 now, this was announced sometime ago.

If Sony put all their games straight to PC on Steam they would lose a lot of revenue from the PlayStation store as you mentioned above. They would also lose subscribers on PS Plus.

If it was good business Rift Apart and Returnal would already be on PC.

I think the gap between releases will shrink but, it won't be day one I don't think. But, sure I could be wrong and Sony might do it. I'd buy all my games on PC then and dump PS+.

The Last of us is now 3 years old...part 2 over a year. I could safely suggest that those 2 aren't selling any more PlayStations...or at least not to the degree that would influence Sony's marketing practises. Ghost of Tsushima?...almost 2 years old. Forbidden west is the new one in there, as much as I'd like to see it on PC after playing HZD to death for a year...that's not happening.

Still like to see the others though :)

HZD coming to PC didn't surprise me, but this one does. I never expected Sony to relax its control over exclusive titles this much. I wonder if it's in response to the XBox's close relationship to the PC, which IMO was a selling point of XBox until now.

Yeah, because there isn't really a reason to buy a console. In essence Sony's business model is outdated, the exclusive strategy barely works and being a publisher would maybe just be the better option.

Been playing this on PC, it's very very good. Anyone else trying it?
Yup, been playing since it released on Steam and loving it. I must a secret PS fanboy I reckon, loved all the former exclusives they've released on PC so far with the upcoming Uncharted series firmly on my Steam wishlist. The only PS to PC port I've honestly disliked was Death Stranding...Kojima in narcissist mode, not really a good thing :D

Roll on The Last of us and Ghost of Tsushima I say :)

Aye your right there with death stranding! What a brilliant concept and setting, loved the idea of it but its such a mangled mess in almost every other category. Couldnt play more than 8 hours of it.

This God of War though, some really decent stuff in this. The story is ticking along nicely, I've opened up some more of the game and unlocked a few more skills so the combat choices are rounding out well.
The only thing I'd be hesitant about is the gear upgrading, many of the armour and weapon bits you pick up are underwhelming, I'm reticent to upgrade them because the scarcity of upgrade materials might hamper upgrading the bits I've picked up that are good from the start. It leaves me thinking that I'd be sticking with these throughout rather than seeing what the cast offs might be capable of.
