i know shape is the key its not my first time doing core yet this doesnt make things easier especially for someone who has no visual memory, lots of asteroids no matter the type resembles core to meI assume this is still accurate, I have not gone core-hunting for a while but in truth, the shape is the key:

there should be an easier way than having proper graphics settings or memorizing every nook and cranny of a rock
an easier way like an upgrade or better module that just properly highlights cores in a distinct color rather than a shade of yellow lol
I tell myself that the metallic ring one is "Python".I assume this is still accurate, I have not gone core-hunting for a while but in truth, the shape is the key:

Yeah.. there's always the suspicion that the asteroid generating algorithm checks you loadout and then spawns the asteroids you can't mine with your current loadout...Last time I was out mining I didn't find anything else but cores... I was looking for lasermining targets actually.![]()
i dont understand Elite communitys love of inconvenienceI think it's OK as is; they're meant to be rare bonuses. IMO the main annoyance is that you can too-easily recognise them by shape because FD have only made one model for each ring type. Some more variety in shape and yield would be good
I do that. I laser mine, but take cores when I find them. Subsurface deposits too if they're good stuff. Why is that mysterious?i dont understand Elite communitys love of inconvenience
No core mining isnt a bonus thing its a way of mining what the hell are you even talking about who the hell laser mines and goes like "oh look i randomly found a core let me blow this up and get some bonus ores"
Stop defending mechanics or "balances". I already give good solutions im okay to grind a little to unlock a modified version or a blueprint of pulse wave that shows cores better
If there would be another mining overhaul I would suggest a mechanic similar to the FSS.i dont understand Elite communitys love of inconvenience

So essentially what the existing Pulse Wave thingy is supposed to do... It shouldn't (can't due to instantiantion?) work in SC, and it should have a limited range. It also should have a limited usefulness - somewhere between the current PWA and using Prospector limpets, i.e.If there would be another mining overhaul I would suggest a mechanic similar to the FSS.
So you are flying above the belt, send a pulse through it and enter the Spectrum Scanner. It works like the FSS but you filter for minerals, after tuning you can highlight asteroids containing the desired mineral. At this point it also shows you if it's a core asteroid.
