Please add stock markets to the game

The thing is, BGS and Powerplay is a spreadsheet game.

Tho I understand and support the sentiment - we don't need stock markets.

I too understand this sentiment as well. You should not be able to get rich while never moving your ship. But as a side activity, this thing is a must have IMO.
It depends on implementation, really.

With FDev's track records of BGS, Powerplay, Engineers, Engineers 2.0, C&P, C&P 2.0.... yeah, I'll take a wide pass on this idea and urge it to stay a pipe dream that doesn't occur.

Nice idea, if it were implemented effectively.

Trouble is - based on BGS, MultiCrew, RNGineers, etc, etc, etc - it would NOT be implemented effectively.

It would just join the hallowed grounds of the many failed, bolt-on, half-baked 'features' that have been added over the years.

Anyway, FD can't be bothered. They have dinosaurs and roller-coasters to play with now.

Economies are not zero sum: when a bank extends credit (a loan) to a business for amounts beyond the funds/assets the bank has, then money is being created out of thin air. This is a core feature of how finance works.

Don't try to bring that nonsense up in a gaming forum. It is political propaganda and stupid as can be.

For those who do not know what a stock market is: Players can create offers to buy or sell a certain good for a price. Where such offers match the deal gets done. There are three lists involved: Selling offers, buying offers and last prices for deals done. Prices for goods with no demand usually tend to decrease, prices for goods with high demand tend to increase. Regarding all deals: what goes in goes out. The coding is extremely simple and can be done on one weekend. Deals are impacting player accounts only. There are no intrinsic values involved but players demand. There is no impact on BGS because it makes no difference wether a good is in the hands of one player or another and it makes no difference wether a sum of credits is in the hands of one player or another. The amount of goods in (all) players' hands doesn't get influenced and the amount of money in (all) player's hands doesn't get influenced. Since all stock markets take a fee (usually less than 1%) any gambling at stock markets functions as a money sink. General rule for all stock markets is: You must have what you offer and you must hand it in until the deal gets done or until you cancel your offer again.

That is in all cases a zero sum game and the same is true for all financial transactions in real life. There is no exception. Please don't bring up internet rumours spread by right wing extremists who constantly deny the core principles of financial transactions to lure the gullible into their shady paranoia mills. This a gaming forum, not a political one.

Stock markets between players only would have no entertaining value.
Players have no demand for goods neither they do generate supply. And it sort of needs sharp supply/demand changes.

I see it as players being the only the part of "existing" stock exchange, with BGS being about only real factor to supply/demand values. And in that light, whether or not stock markets are zero sum have little meaning to the system.

Shamelessly copying the Eve Online economic model would be a truly amazing addition to Elite, hell I would even go as far as to hire the same exact economic expert that CCP hired to design Eves economy. Have VERY few things in the game that aren't player made, this will allow for a properly functioning stock market that can be truly player manipulated. Of course this would require a pretty extensive player crafting system, not to mention placeable outposts and stations for resource extraction. But if done right it could be a fix to the broken BGS/Power Play system.

What i explained is the only known definition of a stock market. Wether the traded goods are commodities or whatever. Could be shares of factions or stations or even whole planets, maybe shares of the ship manufacturers. Point is: it is easy to implement and could be a foundation for a whole set of new activities and gameplay mechanics with the advantage that those could be implemented later.
