Please add third person UI for meaningful gameplay

I would actually go a step in the opposite direction and remove the stupid 3rd person multicrew gunner camera. Was so looking forward to multicrew but the implementation is so cheap and immersion breaking i never want to use it

No need to remove anything, just don't use it if you don't like it.

Adding a turret view option would be nice though.
 
The reason we have the current camera controls is because in the early days if you wanted to take a screenshot outside of first person you had to use the "Debug Camera" which had clunky controls as it was only intended for debugging purposes. FDev saw this was happening, updated it, and made it much more user friendly to use. As you say it was only ever intended for taking photos or videos, not for general use.
I've not actually used the existing camera :) I actually meant the debug camera hah. I'd noticed there had been changes because there are how keybinds for two different cameras now, just hadn't looked into either.

I did assume, with confidence, that the existing cameras didn't change fdev's stance on the functionality of their use and I did assume they're just the officially released versions that probably work better.

Maybe one day I'll spend time finding usable key combinations to map to and actually try it out :D.
 
It already exists with gunnery MC. If you can telepresence from one side of the galaxy to the other, how is it immersion breaking to have a drone view ten meters in the +y axis?

if you dont like it play something else, we need more sim like features not arcade
 
I honestly don't care, I know I wouldn't want to use it, even if it were available - I'm just curious how the OP thinks that it would add "meaningful gameplay"?

How it would add meaningful gameplay.

1. Entering and exiting stations (any station) it makes it much easier to not hit something
2. Exploration and sight seeing as at least I activate third person for the view but I can't do anything much as there is no UI.
3. In general space awareness whether its mining, flying or seeing all the cool things ships do on the outside that isn't visible from the cockpit.

And while I don't engage in any PvP, I do participate in PvE combat and personally see value in space awareness or having insight to positioning.

I'm sure there are more reasons but these are mine.
 
it is made on purpouse. FD don't want who play in third person to have some advantage over the others.

What advantages are people suggesting? To be specific, if everyone can do it, theres no advantage.
Oddly the VR conversation gives things others cant experience or see but that isn't seen as an advantage so why is 3rd person?

ok, I will give you another reason: third person sucks.
