Please automate Supercruise - its the most pointless gameplay element.

What's the point of an autopilot if it doesn't save time? So OP can reduce the procedure to staring at the screen?

I'd rather have it more varied: Gravitational pull (no, the ship slowing down near masses is not gravity, that would be the opposite of it) and more degrees of freedom for the motion of the ship rather than it behaving like a pearl sliding down a chain, so that the ship can go into a spin and give you all sorts of reason to use your skills, because you don't want to fall unconscious and/or your ship to suffer damage because of inertial forces. Also: collisions with celestial bodies pls :D

EDIT: And interdictions that are harder to avoid and (rare?) interdictions by wings.

How is he trolling!?
Because he doesn't share your FDEV implanted opinion that manually aiming at the destination for minutes is so super awesome?
From my point of view, he is absolutely right.
I must be a troll too then...

This forum becomes more and more pathetic!

Yes... yes. I'm not here very often, but i can see why the forum is to be pitied...

Remember that we can be going many factors of lightspeed - a planet's gravity isn't going to do much to affect our course then. Also, we are in supercruise; I'm not sure of the lore explanation here (Alcubierre drive? Einstein wrong and FTL is possible? Might be someone here knows what ED uses), but it might not follow that gravity works the same way in supercruise.

There not being an autopilot in supercruise is not the problem... the problem is that there's so little happening in supercruise that people want autopilots for it.
I think that things need to change, and can change. We could start by making piracy a threat.

You know there is more to the galaxy than piracy and bounty hunting. At least, there should be.

I mean, I'm all for more things happening, more life in the universe, etc... but if I get interdicted every single time I'm trying to get to a station that would really honk me off. Not every stage coach in the old west got robbed, the vast majority got where they were going just fine.

We don't need an autopilot for SC, we just need way more acceleration and deceleration so going to a 32k Ls away station doesn't take 15min of staring at the screen, nudging it ever so slightly back in the middle of the screen until we can finally throttle back from 100% because we're 3k Ls away and need to slow down because we'd not slow down in time.
Oh wait, if we untarget the station and slam on the brakes in empty space we can come from 500c to drop speed in a matter of seconds. Handfappium is an amazing material :p

I'd definitely agree that Supercruise could be a bit less tedious than it currently is, but autopilot? Meh.

Simply increase the rate of acceleration and deceleration.

I hate the artificial deacceleration. If Im going too fast and in danger to pass the station all I need to do is to detarget the station and suddenly I slowdown quickly.

Then I can retarget the station and continue . There is so much awesome in Elite but majority of the time you are spending it deaccelerating.

Also I hate the cheating npc who can Sc super fast to stations. Even if I took 2% hull damage I would do it.

Lol ninjad.

Auto-cruise is the next logical step up from the Basic Docking Computer to an Intermediate Flight Assist and eventually an Advanced Flight Controller (that can also do multi-hop jumps).

Interdiction, fuel scooping would remain manual tasks.

(The BDC automates something that's easily much more complex than supercruise.)

Which, really, would make it no different from the realistic combat simulators of the 1990s/early 2000s. Autopilot is for taking care of tedious stuff - in real-life. You have to take control of things when unexpected variables enter the equation, such as coming under fire.

Supercruise needs a revamp completely. I've moaned about it from the start in beta. Better feedback from the ship telling you optimal approaches and the ability to recover. The better the FSD the better it will speed up and slow down etc... correct "SLOW DOWN" warnings etc..

I want the ability to buy an alternate type of FSD that would instead of being able to hyperjump, it could scale up to .20/ly per second speeds or so. Then, we could fly continuously between systems without having to necessarily stop at every star.

It would also be cool to be able to drop out between stars and take selfies...I mean, absorb the sights :)

Well, since this topic has been raised again... anybody got Star Citizen here? I wonder how supercruise ("quantum jump"?) is implemented there, from the player's point of view.
