If you sort by "Kills+Combat bonds" you get all the ranks in perfect order. This means that we might well be on to something and using the data that we have we can see the following for this new "Kill Score"

So "Kill Score" summary:

Harmless = 0 to 68 (68 is too high but not enough data)
Mostly harmless = 69 to 73 (69 is too high but not enough data, 73 is likely exact)
Novice = 74 to 236 (74 is likely exact, 236 is likely too high but not enough data)
Competent = 237 to 682 (both figures are likely high due to lack of enough data)
Expert = 683 to 1495 (both figures are likely high due to lack of enough data)
Master = 1496 to 3359 (both figures are likely high due to lack of enough data)
Dangerous = 3360 to ????? (3360 is likely high due to lack of enough data)

This is probably useless but i write down EVERY single kill ever and the ships and competence (also the names...no repeat so far in my kills though i DID once see a Cute Rabbit again shortly after i'd killed one)

Yes it appears that the credits are irrelevant and it is ONLY down to KILLS and Combat bonds. It has nothing to do with relative ranks, ships etc etc...

Are you absolutely sure of the figures of 2202 & 357 for Dangerous. This is the only entry that doesn't quite fit. What are your CURRENT values? Your profit from bounties is nearly double anyone else so your kills at 2202 would seem VERY low for that - it basically doesn't look right.

Just waiting for a confirmation re one entry but new summary:

So "Kill Score" summary:

Values in red and believed exact ones but all are subject to change as more data is collected.....

(note still waiting for more data to find harmless/mostly harmless, competent/expert, expert/master & master/dangerous boundaries)

I might be completely wrong with all of this. It is all just based on the data we have.

Combat Rank = Novice. I hit it tonight with a lower total of kills than I thought I'd need, going by others' posts:

Bounties claimed = 42
Profit from bounties = 206,221
Profit from combat bonds = 0
Assassinations = 0
Profit from assassinations = 95,767
As yet unclaimed bounties (as not near relevant systems) = was around 12K unclaimed when I logged off.

I became expert yesterday and about 50 combat bonds ago

1. Remember if you KWS someone, you can get multiple bounties for one actual kill. Some of the bounty values may be higher than actual.

2. I bet they're using similar code to the NES version of Elite, where each ship has a multiplier value. It's likely not just "X ships" but "X points of ships", where a Sidewinder is 1 and other ships are adjusted appropriately. E.g. in the NES version of Elite, an Anaconda was worth three Sidewinders in kill values.

Have you done many assassinations? It could be the total kills+combat bonds+assassinations but with the assassination number bug we cannot get an accurate figure for that particular field.

So far we have quite a bit of data with 2 people that do not fit but everyone else does so it looks like we are getting close to finding the answer but not quite there. I'm ONLY going off the data for this as there are so many theories including my own one which has been disproven by the data.

Ok so there is likely something else to take into account but we are still getting a general correlation here. I thought, before entering the data, that it could be the missing number of assassinations but the confirmed un-correlated entry (inexplicit) is definitely an issue and with no assassinations. Also either my first entry whilst still mostly harmless is an issue or heavymetaltcup's is. Even if we cannot get the definitive answer here at least we will have this data to help people later and to show approximately when they will get a rank up.

Thanks for that but I'm doing this based solely on the data to see what we can prove from that. There is a possibility that we are missing a field here but this is the only data we have. If what you are saying was correct then it would explain inexplicit's entry somewhat but then RipperJack has most and so he should be close to dangerous too. Maybe if he suddenly posts saying he has gone up to dangerous that could answer that. We still have the anomoly re heavymetaltcup/cowasaki with neither having any combat bonds.
