We know now that there are missing bits of information

Assassinations are not shown (BUG)

They still count as bounties, at least the anacondas. Plus since the price is pretty constant, divide by 160k and you will be close.

There is no entry for anarchy kills BUT this might well be stored in a hidden field only available to ED

If you KWS them, anarchy kills, which almost always have bounties, count as 1-3 bounties claimed, just like any other skip you kws.

The biggest missing number is how many SHIPS you collected bounties on, rather than the number of total bounties collected, since one kill can give multiple bounties.

Yesterday I had 195 bounties collected, around 1,4 MM of bounties cashed, 17k made from combat bonds and no assassinations. i went for a bounty hunt in Sol (RES near Jupiter). After killing 11 NPCs (I only play solo) I got back to the station with a broken canopy and discovered that I am now Competent instead of Novice. I have now 206 bounties collected (1,47 MM) and 17k in combat bonds. Oh, and a couple of anarchy kills as well, but not many (10-15 maybe). This is pretty fast progression compared to most people here...? Most of my kills were while bounty hunting, rather small ships, but with Competent-Expert-Master ratings, rarely above or below. Maybe 10-15 kills concenred big ships (2 Anacondas, a couple of Type 7s, Fed Dropships and Pythons).

7 pages of guesses, some good ones.

The programmers have made a simulation, I suppose. In that simulation( which is a guess itself so I get the irony) You spend a huge amount of credits on a ship or scanner or laser. They do not include an instruction manual, is this normal in Europe?

I am having a great time in game, but I think that this is a half baked cake. Or the programmers have got my cash and are laughing at me!

I can tell you 100% that the number of bounties collected IE kills is irrelevant to your rank I got MH without an increase in that number in an anarchy system killing an expert.

11 kills at harmless
11 kills at MH

What ship were you flying, and what ships were they flying?

I wonder if it has anything to do with number of ship losses? Could be that you accrue points towards your next rank up for each kill / bounty and lose points for a ship loss. This could explain the disparity with a few of the CMDRs.

My rating from harmless to novice took about 8 kills over the threshold that most have posted - I'd died four times.
I believe this is the missing figure that will help match up rank threshold with kill count.

Wanted to post because I just went from Expert to Master tonight, and it was a good bit sooner than I thought it would be. I'm guessing it happened within the last 50,000 in combat bonds. A friend I play with has about 20 more total kills, and is still Expert. His split is more towards bounties than mine.

Combat bonds appear to have much higher weight than bounties.

Either because the war zones have higher ranked enemies or because wanted criminals can have multiple bounties on their heads.

I guess milk warzones for faster ranking.

Useful, thanks. Combat zone NPCs are harder nuts to crack. I may be wrong but it seems like NPCs of the same rank, say Dangerous, are a fair bit tougher at CZs

My progression was quiet fast (Novice at exactly 56 kills, Comeptent somewhere between 195 and 206) with only 17k earned in combat bonds (in a single session).

The statistics do not fit with that conclusion......

T-dog and Szyslak's do. They both have more bonds than
bounties and got Master & Dangerous with fewer total tracked kills than most of us.

But if you take the spreadsheet and add a multiplier the the combat bonds column it doesn't result in a more accurate rank.

Here are a few quotes if it can help you figure out stuff. I still think the ship you are in + the ship you kill + your respective combat ranks + fudge factor depending on situation (mission, bonds, murder) = rank up points. Rank up points = combat rank.

Hello Commanders!

Your Pilot's Federation Combat Rank increases based on rank disparity, so kills in anarchies count. This is separate from reputation with factions (which is also logged in anarchies) and crimes (which are not logged in anarchies). Hope this helps a bit.

Hello Commanders!

Sorry, I'm not trying to be cryptic!

So, with regards to combat rating: you make bigger gains when you destroy ships with a higher combat rating than yourself.

Legality does not factor into this equation: a pirate who kills lots of ships with higher rank will increase their rank appropriately. What makes them a pirate is their ability to steal and sell cargo from other vessels.

Is this any clearer (I may be missing the point)?

Hello Commanders!

Ya, I see what's happened here, I think. That patch note line is a little out of context thanks to its brevity. Basically, the place in the code that determines what combat rank points are awarded has moved from the code that dealt with murder crimes to somewhere else.

So really, it ought to say: don't award combat skill points when committing a murder... because we now add them at another point in the flow.

Apologies for the confusion, folks!

So combat rating increases currently only look at the ranks of the ships involved.

It seems I've ranked mostly after some serious shooting at the warzones.
