The current discussions on the new exploration, crime and punishment system, ganking... This forum is unable to reach consensus or make decisions, but it would be really good to know what the actual majority thinks. IMO it would be useful for FD, too, however unbinding to you if your direction of development is different.
The only way to get a meaningful majority opinion of the currently playing population would be to ask the question before one can press the "start" button with an option to skip the survey. My suggestion is to ask such questions in this way and posting the results.
Alternatively you could just post final decision and prevent endless and pointless debates.
Maybe the polls would be nice, but first: Not in the forums, we are not a representative sample, most of the players do not set a foot here ever and those of us who do could have certain tastes and characteristics that can't be applied to most of the players. Second: Most of us have little idea of what really, really takes to add any feature to a videogame, sometimes I think that certain feature in certain games would take months to implement and then a dev solves it in 3 hours, sometimes a feature looks like it could be done with pressing a couple of menus but it needs hundreths of man-hours to get it right. So we can make outrageous demands that can't be implemented or vote solutions that are not optimal. Third and last: We are not the game owners, we only own licenses to play this game, legaly we have no vinculatory power to decide thing about the game development.
Now, the endless discussions, to be honest, I think that the forums are "contention boads", we players make a lot of demands, all the time, we want this, that, change this, now revese it, etc. You can't develop a game that way. Our enless discussions mean little and achieve nothing, they are just to vent up our frustration, desires or just to interact with other players.
Let's let the devs do what they want with the game, if we like it we can keep laying, if not, well, I've already too many games in my Steam account.
