I agree it sounds like something a fanboy for another system would use as an insult. That's why I use X1, plus it's just way more effecient to type.There is a large segment of the Xbox community that find this term derogatory.

In my rack 'o whack downstairs I have a gaming PC, an Xbox, a PS4, and a Wii, an I play games on my iPad and phone as well. It's silly to derogate any gaming platform because it's the games available for the platform that make the difference; not the platform itself.
Yes, I can say I like the PS4 controller more than the Xbox controller, but inside an Xbox is a specialized configuration of: a PC running a version of Windows. Inside a PS4 is a specialized configuration of: a PC running a version of FreeBSD. I play Elite on: a PC running a version of Windows.
Gamers who think they are more 3733t because of the platform they play on, are just gomers who haven't really taken the time to understand how computers work. Edit: I see the platform-hatred as intellectual laziness because it's easy to ignorantly bash an entire platform without having an actual critique of a particular game. Can we talk about whether the Metal Gear Solid series is all it's cracked up to be? Oho, that'd take some substantive critique. But it's absurd to dismiss an entire platform because each platform has some truly great games. Except for Macs, I mean. The haven't had a good game for Mac since Myst. j/k.

Reviewers, game companies, etc.. Maybe they'll get a corrective slap from Microsoft's PR department but for all intents and purposes we can call it Xbox until the crows come home to roost.

Honestly all the nonsense between people that play on different platforms amuses me, we're all gamers what does it matter if I use a mouse or a controller. Or if my controller has an X or an A. Let's all just enjoy the game and not take offence at silly terminology. (Speaking of platform trash talking I was in stitches in the build up to the next gen release, people giving each other abuse because of what console they were buying even before the stats were out for them =/)

Also, please don't refer to Elite Dangerous as "ED". That abbreviation has other meanings that a large segment of the community find disturbing or difficult to explain. Instead, please use "EliDang".
