Please fix the Corvette Razor pack!

Looks like a case of colour banding, I've heard VR sets like Oculus Rift are quite prone to it. Is there an option to increase the bit depth of the colour channels?

I've noticed weird paint stuff like this on my OR before too, always assumed it has something to do with the headset rendering. Maybe not?

When I look at this, I am wondering if a technical issue is involved here.
Could it be some sort of scaling problem? Do we know anything about the paint jobs’ textures resolution?

I know that, if I would design such sort of textures in Photoshop, I would create vector images and rasterize them when done. Not only because this would be more precise, but also because I am lazy and tweaking vectors is so much easier than re-painting those edges again and again in order to make them fit.
I simply can not imagine that a professional artist wouldn’t take the most efficient and also flexible approach in order to achieve his goal.

That’s why I have to think that there is something else going on ...

Yes, I can’t see any artist being satisfied with that – it’s almost comical. Unless of course the idea was to give a hastily applied “war paint” type vibe. It looks rubbish in any case.

No really, didnt the art team specifically say they werent fixing this? Am I the only one that remembers that thread?:(

If it’s a technical issue, the artists probably hate it as much as we do ...

your paint looks worn. how much is there left on your ship? (repair interface)

this is most likely not an issue with the actual textures,
but with the UV-Mapping of them onto the ship.

This is at 100%. As stated above, that's is why I suspect that it's something to do with the layering/alpha channels on the textures. I agree, in both cases it's most likely a UV issue of some kind - no artist would give that the green-light.

Maybe - I must have missed it. :) The issue I'm having with the Black paint-jobs is different though - more to do with alpha channels and lighting (assuming that I'm not the only one). My main point is that FD should be more diligent and exacting, seeing as we have to pay for every minor customisation.

Simple thing is stop buying them. And no FD will not go bust overnight. They wont fix them if people keep buying shoddy paint jobs. Make the point with your wallets.

Yeah you're 100% right... in principle...

I am a bit torn right now, as I like the overall look of the paintjob from further away a lot....

If it was fixed it would still look good from further away too, right ?
I understand the "oh well" notion here, and you'd safe yourself the hassle, it's a natural reaction.
I have accepted an insignificant flaw in a new item i bought too at times, since it didn't impair it's functionality, but only was cosmetic.
But that's the whole point of cosmetic digital items, their entire functionality is "to be cosmetic" and to look good.
Thus you purchased a (partly, from close up) disfunctional product.

I realise that I’m hogging/derailing the thread somewhat (apologies), but just to illustrate that the issue with the Black paint jobs only appears under certain lights, here’s a couple of shots of my Asp tonight. As you can see, it’s virtually invisible in the first shot, but turn on the ships lights and the patchiness begins to emerge in the surrounding area. It doesn’t look too bad here, but there are certain locations where the whole ship looks like c@*p (under floodlights at bases etc - refer to my first image).

Since no-one else has started a proper bug report on it I have lodged one, at the following link.

I'd kindly ask there be no mention of asps nor midnight paint or anything else off topic, please keep this bug report about the corvette razor paint pack if you'd please.

Yes, of course. I was making a point about the quality of paint jobs generally, so it's not entirely off-topic in this particular thread I don't think, but that’s fair enough. :) I’ll submit a separate bug report.

He was saying it'd be off-topic in the specific bug report thread. It's relevant here, and is certainly worth mentioning. It's almost as though those textures were painted on in ZBrush or something and later unwrapped, resulting in unexpected errors. You'd have to go out of your way to create a skin like that in Photoshop.

I purchased the Corvette Razor pack, which looks nice from a distance and on the store picks, but a closer look reveals a horrible quality, especially the chrome-like details that are painted on there, please see yourself (I highlighted some of the "problems" in red, but its quite self-explanatory):

Just one example:

Do you see that all straight edges are not straight, but strangely wavy? Asymmetric shapes? It looks like this all over the ship.

FDev should be ashamed of these, so are there any plans to fix them?

That's why I don't buy cosmetics from Frontier Development and the only one's I have bought were only the Black Friday skins. They can't even get their pay-for content correct...

Thanks Chorda – yes, I wouldn’t have rabbited on like this in a bug report thread. I agree, there seems to be some strange layering/UV issue at work. The Horus paint job for the Krait has similar problems in terms of jagged/wavy edges and alignment issues, although nowhere near as bad. Here’s a couple of shots (excuse the ship name – bought it for my 5 year old nephew, who named it :) )

This literally looks like someone that used MS Paint did it in a hurry. With a cheap mouse. And no glasses on.
