Please help from the void.

I haven't played Elite in years, literally. When I last left off about five years ago I was two weeks away from the bubble headed towards a new colony in deep deep space. My wife got me a Quest 2 for Xmas so me and a pal are going to get back into Elite. Here's the rub; He's brand new to the game while I'm lightyears away from the bubble in an expensive ship for my play style. What options do I have other than spending a hundred hours or so of just flying back to the bubble (literally at least 100 hours of nothing but jumping back) and losing my ship so I can meet up with him and play together? I do have 52mil credits (a lot to me) but, It took nearly two years to get that much with my play style. Any advice? Also, if dumping my ship is the only option besides flying back will I have to do a complete restart?

pending on where you are you may be able to hitch an FC rides
a 2nd account is always an option
self destructing the ship will just put you back in the bubble but you will loose all that explorers data

What's a FC ride? So if I self destruct I wont go to the nearest station? There was an outpost near where I'm at that Frontier put about the halfway point to my original destination.

You ask somebody owning fleet carrier to give ride. Those beasts can jump 500 ly in single jump.

Just check if any fleet carrier passes by from Colonia to Bubble and dock it, then wait hours/dails until it comes back. (fastest it can do is 1 jump per 20 mins).
They have some topic/site with schedules.
Those are player's owned movable space stations in fact.

If you go to that station then you can sell your exploration data, sell (or store) your expensive ship (sell the modules before selling the ship) after buying a cheap ship. Go out in your cheap ship, die (suicide or fly into an obstacle) then at the rebuy screen CHOOSE FREE SIDEWINDER AT YOUR STARTING LOCATION* (you keep your credits).

Play from there or do a clear save - the game has changed so much you would benefit from this and making up your 50MCr can be done very quickly.

I see so hope I can hitch a ride on someone's carrier. Thanks for the advice. And Yes Colonia was the original destination, It's been so long I couldn't remember the name!

Good advice thank you! This is probably what I'll end up doing, if I can find my way back to the station. It's been so long I forgot how complex setting up my HOTAS and all that is going to be.

You can set filter on map to see systems with carriers. Just make sure it is one you want, because they fly everywhere in all directions now or just stay on place.
