Please Help Me Fix My Launcher

OK, here's what my launcher looks like when I go to launch Elite Dangerous ....

Something is going wrong, and I don't know if it's my old potato of a PC or if it's the launcher. As others don't seem to be reporting this with their launchers, I am guessing it's a problem on my end.

I am not savvy enough with Windows 7 to know how I fix this, so I am asking for help. (If you're going to suggest I submit a ticket, I don't expect Frontier to fix a problem on my end).

It should be noted it launches Elite Dangerous just fine.

That looks a little like the resolution issue we had late last year - but opposite!

Right click Launcher icon - select properties
select Compatibility tab
Select "Change high DPI Settings"
Click tickbox on Override High DPI Scaling...
click Ok
Click Apply

Launch once more.

May fix it

(If it is already ticked, try removing the tick...)

I assume Win 7 stil has these properties as I stopped using it before support stopped.

Right click Launcher icon - select properties
select Compatibility tab
Select "Change high DPI Settings"
Click tickbox on Override High DPI Scaling...
click Ok
Click Apply

Launch once more.

May fix it

I assume Win 7 stil has these properties as I stopped using it before support stopped.

Thank you for the suggestion. I don't have "select change DPI settings" and I don't have "Override High DPI scaling"
the closest I have is a tickbox on the compatibility tab "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" and ticking it or unticking doesn't fix the problem.

That's odd... I've had (and ignored) this same issue for some months now. The suggestion posted above by @Rat Catcher fixed it for me (modified as you've noted by ticking the appropriate "high DPI settings" box) - I am also still on Windows 7, for reasons too complicated to get into here...

I'm still using my ancient box with win7. It'll get replaced when it dies and not before. Works fine for me.

The launcher is essentially a browser window, and it looks like the page failed to load properly to me. Click on the top of the launcher where the horizons banner should be and try F5 to reload it, or CTRL F5.

Same as mine W10, I just gave up and use as is.

Apologies for the thread bump / thread necro ....
I fixed my launcher.

As I had recently broken my PC (I bent some of the CPU pins, and somehow got thermal paste in the socket for the CPU, I have no idea how), I had to buy a new motherboard and RAM (a member of the Elite community gifted me a CPU).

After much hassle and annoyance getting everything working again (again thanks to the help of members of the Elite community) I have just updated via Windows Update .... which as I am currently stuck on Windows 7, is not exactly easy given Microsoft have removed support for Win7 (and are happy to tell me this after I updated), Windows Update installed a bunch of .Net Framework stuff .... and I think that's what fixed the launcher.

Moral of the story is, stay updated.

now, I just need to try getting this PC to upgrade to Windows 10 ....

You can download the media creator for Win 10 from Microsoft and write a disc image to a USB thumb drive to install.
In the EU you can purchase legal keys for W10 for around £20 - but I don't know about outside. Could be worth doing a search.

I had a conversation a couple of days ago with a PC guy.
Apparently, it's still possible to upgrade your Win 7 to win 10.
As suggested above - check whether you have 64 bit or 32 bit process.
Visit the Microsoft website, and using a suitable usb stick use the create nstallation media tool (I created one with both 64 and 32 bit versions.
Now boot from the usb.
That will apparently not only upgrade to win 10, but also transfer the licence.

I have not tried it for a while, but as far as I know it still works. I think the Windows 10 upgrade tool is also still available.
If you want or need to switch architecture (32bit to 64bit), you can do a fresh install (after making a backup of your important files) with the upgrade medium using your current Windows 7 key, that can be accessed by tools like ProduKey.

Not by choice, I want to update to Win 10

It's a free upgrade! If you have problems with it not accepting your CD key activation key, a call to microsoft support usually ends in them re-activating it!
