Please help me with my AX Anaconda build

I took a break from the game about the time that Guardian modules and weapons started to become available, so my few encounters with Thargoid interceptors up to that point were done using standard AX weapons and HRP's. Best I could manage back then with the Gunship and a SLF was three hearts before I had to bug out with too much damage taken and ammo running low.

I've just started unlocking the Guardian modules and have yet to get the weapons, but as far as I can see, although they are pretty to look at when you use them the plasma chargers don't seem to be the best option, so I was just going to go with Gauss and Shard cannons. How much overheating am I likely to suffer using just two medium Gauss cannons?

I've noticed people have taken on interceptors in just a Cobra III, but I don't think I'm ready for that yet. So I'm going with what I hope will be a more survivable build for a newb in a large ship that I am familiar with to start xeno hunting. I expect the repair bill to be high compared to a medium size ship like the Chieftain which I will move onto later hopefully and use as a scout hunter as well.

Could be my build is rather overkill with all the hull and module reinforcements, what do you guys think?

I'm assuming that thermal resistance is important with standard armour, am I right in assuming that? Also that shields are not so important as they don't do much, so I've gone with biweave instead of A rated or Prismatic to keep the power for the hull and module reinforcements and allow a faster recharge rate if I need it.

I haven't engineered any of the modules yet, the ship sits in the dock with stock modules right now in case I need to make any changes.

Please let me know if there are any improvements I could make, be they additive or reductive to the build found here:

AX Anaconda Build

Thanks - Si

Non-Recommended Ships
...

  • Anaconda: The Anaconda is outperformed by both of its large counterparts in AX combat, it can only be effectively flown with special builds and a strong understanding of AX combat. Not recommended for a new AX pilot.

There's nothing in the link to say that the Anaconda is not recomended or outclassed by the the other large ships in fact, it is indicated that it's an easy ship to use. And I would choose it over the Corvette and Cutter because it has better weapon convergance. But the builds recomended by the AXI table all seem to use standard HRP's. Is it not worth bothering with Guardian HRP's? Is caustic resistance ineffective?

Edit: Ok reading the AXI website now for tips, think I will go with the Krait II to start with, for its speed.

Conventional HP + engineers have more HP than guards and do not consume energy.

Makes me wonder why they bothered introducing Guardian modules at all when normal kit is better. I'm going to go with the AXI recommended layout for the Krait II, substituting a shield booster for a xeno scanner. Not sure how I would fare if I can't target these things. But I will also build the Anaconda up too and place these ships out at Witch Head Nebula.

My revised Anaconda AX build for reference:

Well, even with just the Krait as a dedicated xeno hunter it's lots more core dynamics composites for the armour. Why I was initially hoping the guardian HRPs would be good. If I continue fitting out the anaconda as well that's even more core dynamics composites... Ugh!

It's a slog to scrounge up all those mats but is totally worth it when you've got a ship with over 3,000 hull integrity.

Fully maxed out regular HRMs beat Guardian/Meta Alloy/Caustic resistance by a long shot.

I've got two AX Krait II's (one for scouts and one for interceptors) nearly fully armoured up and my God has it taken a while.

Guardian Module Reinforcement on the other hand is totally worth it.

Those are pretty easy to get though. Go to any high population Federation system, scan the nav beacon and look for a High Grade Emissions Signal Source. preferbly one with a high timer. Fly there, drop out, grab the composites and close the game (back to desktop). Log back in, go to supercruise and voila the same signal source is back there. Lets you get 100 Core Dynamics Composites within 30 minutes.
