Please Help - use the Star Map in VR?

So flying Elite in VR is roughly 100x times better than I ever imagined, flying 'flat' feels like losing a full sense and is so limiting.

BUT - and you knew there was a 'but' coming - just how the frell am I to use the 3D star map? The nav panel only allows access to a limited number of star systems, usually well below the range of my can. Going into the 3D map certainly looks cool, but actually looking for a system? Without taking off the glasses and going back to mouse & keyboard (while holding the vive in a way that I can see the map, no less) this is a complete no-go. Unless, and I suspect this is the case, I'm just a silly old fool who is overlooking something obvious. So, please - anyone: can you please educate this ham-fisted noob on how to use the 3D map with the headset on?

Thanks,

Takes a bit of practice but after a hour or so I can keep headset on and use map quite easily now.

The trick is to setup controls for your hotas to navigate.
Some folks dedicate a Xbox controller for this, but the keybinds you pick for map can easily be bound to your hotas because thay override out of map binds. Just make sure you don't use up binds for tabbing menu or select menu bind as you still need them in map.

Play about a bit and remember to tilt the map a bit to see the icon that you are moving about to select systems.
I have the curser movement controlled horizontally and vertically with my warthog mini mouse and my rudder pedals break controls shift it on the z axis, my joystick controls tilt and my zoom is controlled by my throttle.

I will probably change the zoom off the throttle because I forgot to put it back to idle in a station and when I undocked my beluga shot forward and neer claimed insurance

Hope this helps , practice makes perfect

Before I bombard you with useless information, what joystick are you using?

Really, do you think my post bombarded OP with useless information?

What difference does the type of hotas he has make? A keybind is a keybind, I'm sure OP knows the difference between a axis and a key.

Absolutely not - I was talking to the OP :D

I didn't want to flood him with stuff about my Thrustmaster bindings if he was using a different joystick.

I take off the headset only for checking the EDDB and using the second screen to type galaxy names, I gave up with the vocal military Alphabet

PS: Please don't Hate me, BUT (yes a BUT also here) Did you use the SEARCH feature of the forum before posting?
