Please implement cross play and cross progression for PC and console clients.

Cross Play is the #1 feature I would like to see in Elite. More than Atmospheric landings or Space Legs (and I REALLY want them).

I would just really like to be able to play with friends on different devices.

I cant find any numbers, but what I did find said it is rising for PS Plus subscribers. I can see their open being empty if not enough people that have the game dont have PS+

I also know when the PS4 version came out a lot of the people I talked to on another forum went to PS Mobius because of a huge influx of griefers. I know their mobius group filled up rather quickly.

Thing is that many don’t realize: Cross-platform is not solely up to Frontier.
Microsoft has to be onboard (Xbone).
Sony has to be onboard (PS4).

If they’re not, then no cross-platform, regardless of Frontier.

Yeah Im not sure what thats supposed to do with Crossplay either. Its not like this is an especially graphics heavy game anyway. My laptop can run it, and my laptop is awful.

it means having xbox or playstation graphics on pc because of crossplay
(not for those playing on a laptop but @1440p 144hz)

Yes.

Though I'm sure that would be a fairly minor issue to resolve if they do manage to implement cross play (Which they absolutely should, yesterday)

All of us who have ever earned our pennies by writing or maintaining entity transformation layers are laughing hollowly at that.

There are issues concerning the use of alternate accounts, basically as an XBox user I can game share and have alternate user accounts set up on my XBox letting me have different commanders, PC guys need a separate copy for each alternate they want.

Now I'm all for Cross Play [yesnod] and would suggest that a license per platform per commander (a la PC) would not be totally unwelcome :x, so if you want a unified commander you would need a license for each platform you intend to use it on and restrict the cross platform play to the Gold / PS+ account only, to be fair to PC crowd.

But even if you only use one platform you should be able to interact with the others.
A better way to be "fair" to the PC crowd: rather than ripping something away from console players, they let PC players have MULTIPLE CMDR SLOTS PER ACCOUNT already. Like they always should have and were always promised.

Crossplay simply means the clients on different platforms can play together, it doesn't mean they all share the same client. All of the dev work done for each client would continue, no need for that to change. In terms of controllers and potential disparity there, well on PC they already support mouse/kb (which by the way is coming to Xbox shortly), controller and hotas, so PC players are already dealing with that. Nothing new there. In my mind don't see any reason NOT to do this other than potential cost or backend work FD may need to do. I hope they do it, it would be great for the game and especially Powerplay.

I take your point about giving to the PC crowd, however it may not be too clear that my suggestion would not remove what the console players already have merely applying cross play to the main account holder only. Extra accounts would still have access to their own platforms.

Based on other requests for the same thing in other threads concerning this same subject, the PS4 (owned by Sony, not by you) is not giving the green light on cross-play yet. As I recall, Sony is the big hold-up on this subject. Fortnite players screamed very loudly at Sony, so much so that Sony finally gave in and said "Ok, we'll let you do this, but let's not make this a regular thing, ok?"

Sony wants to keep as much "exclusive" content for themselves. "Why should I get this game on PS4 when I can get it on Xbox One or PC? And on PC I can set up a 3 screen system and a big chair from Office Depot and strap a joystick and thruster module to the arm rests."

Sony is going to have to understand that regarding any and all MMO's out there, if they want to play in that swimming pool, we're all going to have to swim in the same swimming pool together. And Sony doesn't realize we'd be happy to have all of you guys there. Makes for more fun. All they have to do is stop thinking "Money over Customer Happiness" and the world (and in our case, galaxy) will be a better place.
Sorry. Nope. Can't scapegoat Sony on this. It's either Microsoft AND Sony's fault or else it is ALL Frontier's fault. If it were down to Sony there's no reason we can't have Xbox-PC crossolay right now. Leave Sony behind and let them play catch-up later. So either Microsoft is also blocking this or else it's Frontier dragging their heels as usual.

I guess I don't understand the benefit of restricting console players in that way. How does this benefit anyone? If PC players suddenly had access to multiple CMDR slots, would you want restrict only one of them to be cross-play compatible? Feels like a solution in search of a problem to me. Maybe I'm not properly understanding the issue you're addressing, though.

Hey BurnyBurns,

We've addressed this before :)

Hello everyone,

First off, the news of this cross-platform beta for Fortnite is really exciting. As it’s just announced, we'll be watching with interest to see how it goes!

Though we’re excited, we've nothing to announce on how this could effect Elite Dangerous in the future. However, you'll find all the information here on our forums, across our newsletters and social pages should that change.

Thanks :)

ROFL. Classic FD speak for 'You're gonna be waiting a very looooooong time ... if ever'. :D :D

But nice to know nonetheless. ;) :D

This isn’t the first thread on the subject of cross-play. As Paige said, it has already been answered with ‘...nothing to announce at the moment...’

The subject of graphics also came up in that thread. As a PS4 console user, I already play against base PS4 and PS4 pro users. I don’t know whether they have the console setting to max frame rate or max resolution. I doesn’t matter to me because I don’t have anything to compare against.
The extension of the argument was that top end VR players will have an advantage over the base console players. That is no different to VR players having an advantage over low end laptop users. The fact remains, it is your experience. Net-code determines where you are in relation to the other ships and local capabilities determines the graphics shown.

Agreed OP.

And add Open-only manipulation of the BGS. Oh, and while I'm at it, don't just sell us pro-Thargoid stickers; allow us to actually side with them in CZs, etc.

Indeed - that was a classic fob off - told you absolutely nothing!

I am interested in it because as people say the PS4 open is very quiet - no idea how many ps4 players are in private group or solo mind you.

And I am concerned it is going to go the way of the MAC version.

Open on PS4 has new faces around quite a lot. It can have quiet spells but sometimes dropping out of SC and back out shows you it was all due to instancing. Something the game needs to improve if crossplay ever populates it even more.
