General Please make the Pilots' Federation District available again, or remove it entirely

After Update 14 it is no longer possible start a new game within the Pilot's Federation District (starting sector).
The only available options are Asellus Primus, or LHS 3447, if the game is started without Odyssey.

So currently, there are a bunch of systems that can never be entered by anyone, making them very useless.

@devs
Please make an option for the default start at Dromi, or remove the restrictions and make the systems available for everyone.

The starter zone has proved to be a good idea, and has all but eliminated spawn camping - Deciat has become so infamous as a griefer hotspot because of the starter zone reverse permit.

So I don't think allowing players who have progressed back in is compatible with that, that's a hard 'no' vote from me.

However if non-Odyssey Cmdrs can no longer choose to start from there when they used to be able to, it seems entirely reasonable to propose that option be reestablished, or enabled if it never actually was available. Seems like an easy win to me.

I also think the starter zone is a good idea, but maybe it's not needed anymore for new players.
Currently it's unavailable for everyone, because new players can't start there, regardless of the game version (Horizons or Odyssey).
It might be working with Elite Dangerous Legacy, but I don't see a reason why new players should play that version.

If it's intended by the devs to not use the starter zone anymore, there is no reason to restrict those systems.

It would be sufficient (imo) just "not to instance players together" if they belong to 2 different groups - new players who never left this starting district (1) and all others (2).

It is now just a relic of times past. Why do you need to go there? I always spawned back in LHS 3447
Sure, it's not necessary, but whats the point of having inaccessible (but nicely designed) systems in the game?
I think the idea of giving new players a safe space is good, but if the devs decided it's not needed anymore, they could just grant access to all players.

In the current state, it's just a dead zone without any purpose.

There are lots of hollow icons in there in Legacy - so Legacy commanders can start in the noob-zone.

Live has none. FDEV seemed so concerned with getting their on-foot combat going that EDO starters always go through that and find themselves without the permit for the noob-zone.

Can new pilots (or clear saves) chose to initially load in Live Horizons and if so will they start in the noob-zone?

Of course if was far too difficult for FDEV to make ALL STARTS go through the spaceship tutorial and begin in the noob-zone and make the ground-combat tutorial an option later. Since that would reduce the emphasis of the on-foot content then no chance. (After all who buys Elite as a space-ship game? )

Too bad, i wasn't aware of this
And it's a real pity cause i have very fond memories from the period i spend in the starter systems with my both my Steam and my Epic accounts

I forgot about this thread...

After my post in April (#9 above) I did do some experimenting with my (up until then) mucking-about-in-the-noob-zone account and can confirm that no matter how you start a new commander in Live, you don't start in the noob-zone (and cannot access it). Starting in Horizons produces the sidey-choice of Asellus Primus (if you pick the srv version) or LHS 3447 otherwise - no permit for the noob-zone in either case.

To further emphasise FDEV's focus on the FPS bolt-on, starting in Oddy gives you a much bigger starting amount of credits (hugely more) - plus of course not in the noob-zone and without the permit.

Very definitely in FDEV the FPS developers rule, that is also why we can no longer have wings of ships, they are in teams (makes me want to pull my eyes out seeing that in space).

That one is because you can now mix multicrew and wings in the same group, subject to the 4-person limit. So a "wing" of 4 might just be 2 ships, one of which has 3 crew, which probably isn't what a "wing (4/4)" note implies. It needs a better way to expose the information, though; a separate display of "ships in wing" and "crew on this ship" would be a lot more informative.

The issue as I see it is that new players no longer spawn there for whatever reason so I'm with Riverside for this one. Relocate the start point to Dromi again so the starter systems fulfill their function again.
Perhaps some stray bit of code reset the start point as it moved back to Ascellus Primus rather than some random spot.

Had me worried for a bit - but I'm still in there (y)

No it means they never left (IIRC @Factabulous was one of the the people that demonstrated how you can achieve lots of access / engineering without actually being promoted and losing the permit) .

Also you can be in there in Legacy - that still spawns new pilots in the zone.
that doesn't make much sense as he's got permits to various fed systems and you don't get fed missions over there.
