I'd forgot about SRVs (I'd heard both versions about TP). When they first came out, I don't think anybody gave it a second thought, and I don't remember anything about telepresence. I just assumed I switched to the turret position and didn't worry about it. But if you look at an SRV, there is no turret position!
Would it have been better with remote control guns, using a holographic aiming point similar to chin guns on helicopters? You could use head tracking or a mouse. Of course, you could only shoot where you can look.
Would it have been better to use a pop up video screen to remotely control the guns - with zoom and possibly video enhancement (IR, etc)?
Would it have been better if the SRV was designed with an actual turret gunner position? And now with crew, it could be crewed (or multi-crewed)? Or maybe come out with a new SRV with a physical gunner position?
No doubt any of these would be more realistic and probably offer better depth of game play than the magic of telepresence.
And that same lack of depth of game play is all to present with SLFs as implemented with telepresence. As I understand it, your crew is not even in the ship with you, so it's galaxy wide remote control!
I really do hope these stupid telepresence explanations are just place holders.
I have thousands of hours in this game, and I have little interest in playing it again until there is more depth, better quality control, and less stupid stuff. I'm hoping for a lot in 2018 and Beyond.
