Please Preserve the Status of Elite

I fully support new players being locked out of things that earn big bucks, as the players who did it with the long game, are FAR ahead of those who fast tracked.

How do you define 'new' players? It's definitely fun to spend a bit of time at the start having to choose wisely over which 1 module upgrade you can afford (it reminds me of the early stages in a Gran Turismo game in a way), but I hope you don't mean that anything more than about 10 hours counts as new?

As a returning player, who previously had about 30 odd hours in around the beta, launch, and then the introduction of powerplay, the ability to now actually earn a decent amount of credits in the smaller ships has let me enjoy my current nearly one month long stint back in the game, instead of bouncing off the credit grind again in one or two sessions to then leave it another couple of years before trying again. It's now possible to have a nice variety of ships, and not have to contemplate weeks of trade runs just to gather enough credits to try out 1 ship.

Long live big payouts in the early game! Plus, the grind's just been moved to engineering now anyway, so the game still massively caters to those who want the best outfitted ships to be available to those who put the time in. But, at least those of us who don't have that much time to play the game can have some actual fun once the initial awe at the flight model, sounds etc starts to wear off a bit (for me at about the 20 hour mark).

If anything, the issue with nu-mining is that all other professions need a bump up. Combat is the most challenging and high-stakes aspect of the game and it currently pays peanuts unless you're stacking wing massacre missions.

Absolutely not. That is how we got to this state. Loads of people whining about how combat paid loads more than everything else had Fdev trying to balance payouts to keep the non combatants happy.

Well, they could make one more rank. "Elite Dangerous". To get that one, you have to be triple Elite and get enough kills against combat Elite rated humans and maintain a certain win vs lose ratio. Or something entirely different. Just saying, because of the game title, there could be one final rank.

I mean... you're just wrong here. The "combat pays more than other stuff" argument hasn't been true (if it ever was) or discussed at length for literally years let alone being 'how we got here' re. mining. Frontier's implementation of mining has nothing to do with bounty/combat zone income, if anything it's likely to be connected to player's longstanding and unshakeable tendency hit 'goldrush' exploits (none of which have involved combat, skimmer spamming notwithstanding).

If you actually compare the average credit rewards per task, rather than going on some apocryphal forum complaints you might get a clearer picture of where things stand, and have stood for the past couple of years.

Although I do understand the concern over making rankings easier to advance, as long as there is no really significant advantage, it does not bother me overly much. I am triple Elite. I have almost 8 billion credits, (which is not much for someone who has played as much as I have) and a bunch of ships, including a Federal Corvette and an Imperial Cutter. Sure, it does devalue the perceived worth of those ranks. Am I happy with that? No. But, does it destroy the game for me? That is the question. For me, the answer is: Not yet. For others, the answer is: Yes. So the question then becomes: How much does this change devalue the game for the majority of the players? Honestly, if the game is devalued for enough players, Frontier will have to respond, or ED faces extinction. That goes for any changes they make. For now, I say: Let it Ride!

I like the idea. I took the liberty of running with that a little farther here.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks!
