Engineers Please tell me that any Engineers upgrade, once unlocked, I can apply to ANY SHIP I own?

I have read many posts about how tiring this material grind can be. Debating jumping into engineers (been having fun w other games).

Please tell me that any Engineers upgrade, once unlocked, I can apply to ANY SHIP I own?

Once you unlock an engineer's tier of upgrades, each individual upgrade must be grinded (yay, new word! Really don't want to say ground.) for, and applies only to a single ship. You can reuse the recipe, of course, but the materials all have to be grinded (yay, new word shows up again!) for each individual application.

Yes, we can apply to any ship once we unlock them.

Edit: well I thought I upgraded another ship but obv wrong about that.

Depends what you mean. You unlock the tiers, which will remain unlocked for any ship. But the mod itself is supposed to be a physical upgrade to that single unit you have upgraded. So these will not apply to all your ships, and you will have to grind out the materials for each upgrade for each ship you own. Good luck :)

ok, this guy just confused me compared to the first 3 replies. Boooooo. So, once I unlock an upgrade I always "have it" but I have to grind the materials (which takes 4+ hours I am reading) per ship?

So 4 hours for FSD on my python, then another 4+ hours FSD on an ASP that I buy?

Dude.

Welcome to ED : Engineers, the Hellish Grind Edition.

So let's say you are doing a multicannon upgrade do you have to upgrade each cannon separately and grind away for each one or does that mod get applied to all your multicannons in one go?

You must have enough Mats for each of the units, if you have 6 Multicannons, then you need 6 times the recipe.

Do we have to re-grind for upgrades when our ship is destroyed?

No, modules that are modified are replaced in the rebuy screen.

Once you open a given tier of modifications, you have to farm the material for each upgrade in that tier you desire for each item you want to upgrade.

So you opened the tier for the ammo upgrade for multicannons..you have to bring each multicannon PLUS the mats to the engineer and upgrade them individually.

Just like any other game that has crafting in it. You open a recipe, then you have to bring mats to the crafting table to make the item.

Yes, I'm afraid this is true. Each module (for each ship) needs a selection of materials to be modified. I have 4 ships I fly regularly (Asp, Clipper, Python and Cutter) so I will have to upgrade 4 FSD's, 4 Thrusters, 4 Power Plants, 4 Shields and so on and so on... In my opinion this makes sense, but as the current method for gathering materials is hopelessly grindy, a long with the fact that you can't store materials or modules in a star port it all becomes rather painful!

Add to that the fact that your results for each upgrade might vary enormously then you get a recipe for serious frustration and rage-quitting. As an example the Level 5 FSD mode can range from a 15% to a 44% increase in range... that is a huge difference!

So let's say you are doing a multicannon upgrade do you have to upgrade each cannon separately and grind away for each one or does that mod get applied to all your multicannons in one go?

Nope, once for each cannon from what I have understood (haven't modded any weapons yet but this is how it worked in Beta).

So, if I understand this crafting correctly. I need to gather the crafting items required. Have met the engineer requirements for grade and item I want to make. AND be in the ship I want it applied to. Correct?

So, I will have to fit a cargo hold to my Vulture at some point if a commodity is needed correct?

Currently yes.

Wow wow, so for a guy like me only have so much playing time and has one ship which is a python that I'm not even sure about for its longevity I really need to figure out which ship will make sense for me before I even really get into the weeds with engineers

Seriously, what are people complaining about?

Say, for example, you want me to build a computer for you, and I say "Yeah, that's fine, bring me the parts and I'll put it together." So you bring them and I build it. It. One computer. You wouldn't expect me to magically create four, would you?
Next time you visit do I magically have a whole cupboard full of the PC I built last time? Of course not.

That's how the Engineers work.

I hear you (dude in post above me). When I was younger I had the time to grind wow, ever quest, etc. Older now with my own business and far less time.

It makes some sense what you said about getting parts per ship. I'm simply saying, due to limited playing time, I have to decide what one ship will work for me to fly and upgrade over the next few months.

That's all breh :) oh, and that everything in life should be free... Can't forget that part ;)

I'm pretty sure you can swap out modified modules between ships, might be wrong.

I think it's a case of selling the module, swapping ships, and rebuying that item. So if they fit you only need to do one set.

It isn't that difficult is it to understand really ??

I mean it could not be simpler. Learn a recipe like banana cake and every time you want to make a banana cake you need to go and find the ingredients, not magic a banana cake out of ya ass.
