Community Event / Creation Pleiades Survey Project

The Pleiades Survey Project needs your help, CMDR!

Lots of very unusual discoveries are being made in star systems within 150 LY of Merope: Unknown Artifacts, Unknown Probes, and now unknown wrecks on the surface.

Our continued research is hampered by an incomplete picture of the systems within this "shell". Many of us have scanned those systems with discovery scanners as we've passed through, and some of us have scanned bodies within those systems; but unfortunately there isn't a way for us to easily share that information with each other.

Existing tools also require a lot more work on the behalf of individual CMDRs.

Fortunately Lab D of the Canonn Institute's work on biscuit analysis systems--to automatically determine whether or not a given biscuit is a digestive or a hobnob--turn out to also be applicable to analyzing star system data! Taking much of the hard work from individual CMDRs.

Here's where you come in!

  1. Take a look through your flight logs, and your galaxy map, and note the systems that you've visited that are within 150 LY of Merope.
  2. Grab screenshots (F10) of the system map of those systems (you don't even need to move from your current location to do this).
  3. If you've scanned any bodies, select them and grab screenshots of the information tabs about them. You'll probably need to scroll down and grab screenshots of the lower pages too.
You can also help as you travel through the shell:

  1. Take screenshots of the Navigation Panel of your ship, scroll down to capture all the nearby systems.
  2. Take an extra few seconds to discovery scan the system, and grab the system map, etc. as above.

Upload your screenshots here.

Our goal is to extract as much information as we can, putting together each of the small pieces held by individual CMDRs, and building up a more complete picture of the entire shell. All information will be made available to everyone through EDSM and EDDB, so questions like "which systems have ammonia worlds?" within this region can be answered quickly.

Cmdr Keybuk has kindly agreed to let me help.
What I'd like to do is create a list of systems within the shell area and keep track of what has been done.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ASwe4TNiEVUnNQ3_Wyi5VrBlXRCwbc0C_zXU6Ysx-IM

To help me do that, I'd like Cmdrs to upload screenshots of their Nav Tab when they are in the area to the link provided by Keybuk.
From those Nav Tab lists I'll add to the list and coordinate with Cmdr Keybuk regarding where he is making his info available.

Well 1783 systems seems like it'll keep us busy for starters!!

So far I've sourced:
- all the UA, UP, Barnacle lists kept by Canonn - see the megathread
- Inara's list of systems
- my own personal bookmarks

If anyone has their own equivalent lists, I'll happily accept them and cross-reference against what we have already.

If you want a list of systems with known coordinates 150ly near Merope you can use this link -> https://www.edsm.net/api-v1/sphere-systems?sysname=Merope&radius=150

There are some pages that have a nice way to upload and then browse systems, like http://www.elitegalaxyonline.com/. Why don you use them instead of a dropbox folder?

Keybuk is in charge of the individual system mapping efforts, elitegalaxyonline does look the the appropriate place to upload what he collects though.
I'll likely start using it and linking to entries that are already there.

I'll have a look at the edsm query as well to build on the list we have - thanks.

I can upload the system list in csv format to the dropbox folder if you don't want to mess with the edsm output.

As is mentioned in the OP of this, the goal is to get information into these sites. They are woefully incomplete right now.

CMDRs already uploading to those should carry on, the point of this project is to gather the information from those who have not contributed so far. We're offering a fast way to contribute without CMDRs having to deal with manually typing in system details themselves.

Yeah; I'll be in game later today and I'll start screenshoting my nav screens.

I suppose you guys are aware of the system that has the new landfall bases (Tii Research Facility is one of them I believe) has a capital ship parked near two convoy staging points right near that particular planet (11,000LS out I think but I will check it again later today)?

What's the deal with that?

[Edit]I've just been back to the Pleiades-Sector-IH-V-C2-16 system as mentioned above and the number of Capital Ships and Convoy beacons has doubled in the past two days.

I've posted a separate thread with those screens in it:

Other screens I've got I'll drop to you...[/Edit]

Thanks Manticore - for system listing purpose, I'm looking for the Nav Tab pics showing the nearest stars.

Started linking to EliteGalaxyOnline entries.

Checked the sisters (only Merope is there), and sectors up to P.
Synuefai onwards, other named, and star catalog systems still to check.

Dropped a couple screens in the box after finding an ammonia world I haven't seen listed anywhere: HIP 24007 3. Didn't scan every body or anything, but at least there's a system map showing this planet's info tab (top and bottom) and nearby systems in the nav panel. Still bingo on UP's despite trolling (going for a fishing analogy, not starting a flame war ;)) using the guidance from the UA thread for at least 20 min....

Uploaded eight screens captured on my way out of the Pleiades. I'm back in Bubblespace for the week earning money and rank. I'll be back in the Pleiades alien hunting next weekend.

well, that 130 LY from Merope but I check it anyway, on the way I try to re-confirm results for Pleiades Sector GG-Y c4 C2

UAs never seem to be a problem, but UPs are extraordinarily rare as far as I can tell. I've only ever spawned 1.
The only thing I think I know is that you need to be in the 'zone' for the planet, not Deep Space.

We also don't know how far out UPs go.
The trouble is, it's impossible to confirm a negative and say for sure that a UP won't spawn.

I've processed the first set of NavTab screenshots and we have our first new system.

Congrats Manticore - Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-11. It does exist in EDSM so I'm not sure why it wasn't on the list to start with but it does at least validate the method.

Scratch that - I was having a senior moment - it was on the list

For future screenshots, could you please include the last object from the system you are currently in - I'm sure you've done it right but this confirms to me that the stars shown are the closest ones - thanks.

It's 123.88, according to EDDiscovery; we're interested in <150, right? Or is it just that it's a long trip and/or outside where we've found a UP so far? It would be nice to have Y/N results, as with UA's, to define a region, say 0-100 LY from Merope, though difficult since the spawn seems so rare, as MDM said.
