PLUTO? Looks the same as any other planet.

Rather than moan about whilst this is the case, I was just hoping that it would have had an update. Looks like hope is in short supply.

Why can't you land on the Moon? Or for that matter most of the Jovian Giant moons? Although a significant number are missing. :S

Nuff said. :(

Well, yeah. What did you expect it to look like?

The Moon is off-limits because special stuff is being planned for it.

The Jovian Giant moons all have atmospheres. Will come later.

It would be nice if they gave it some extra detail now that we actually know what the surface looks like... Though I imagine it will come once we're able to land on lifeless planets with atmospheres. And the inability to land on Pluto and most of the Jovian moons is due to their atmosphere.

DB said that FDev want to update Pluto with the details that they can get from NASA, but want to be accurate so are waiting on some part of it (was it height mapping detail? - I don't remember).

He said this in one of the livestreams I think. My memory is bad. I'm old.

Correct. They need a little more info than just a jpeg anyone could Google :p
An update will come :)

New Horizons is still piping data down to Earth, and will be for another 11 months (bandwidth is a :):):):):) at 3289706019 miles). So yeah, may take a while to incorporate in the game.

Well, to be fair, all celestial bodies in Elite look pretty much like everything else, ie all the same. Just the same different coloured and sized soccer balls, some with pretty rings.

Found this pretty and out-of-the-ordinary though whilst on one of my trips:

As I said above. FDev are waiting for the terrain height data to be available.
Creating a scale model of a planet is a little more complicated than just downloading the first JPG off Google ;) :p

I think the OP expects it to look like the latest pics from the New Horizon probe sent back recently. (http://scitechdaily.com/images/New-Horizons-Reveals-the-Rich-Color-Variations-of-Pluto.jpg)

Not an unreasonable expectation for the solar system to be as accurate and up to date reflecting discoveries as they are made.

That being said, FD should be given some time to properly craft the various bump maps etc required. Luckily for them there are loads of pics of Pluto but unfortunately I'm not sure if they cover the entire dwarf planet so some artistic license may still be required to fill in the gaps.

I'm not sure if such accuracy is all that important to FD at this moment.

I too have wondered why only the major moons are represented and not all of them. Granted this would mean the nav list would be huge so I'd accept a compromise. Anything over 100km in diameter should be in the game imho.
