Iv heard you need an ecm for torpedoes, a point defense won't work?

Are torpedoes still in the game? I thought they were gone, given you can't synthesize ammo for them.
I tried them extensively and they seem like a total waste. Often they don't hit, sometimes you get super unlucky and they hit but destroy an irrelevant subsystem, dealing almost no damage to the hull - and with an ammo count of 1/2, there's no room for error.

Currently, the most hilariously overpowered-and-yet-skill-requiring build in the entire game is with reverb torps.

Check out Na'Qan's deadly keelback!! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCL0qebEnZSMy3i514MO9gaA Yes, I said Keelback. Thank you, great goddess of torpedos!
They do work, but they need about 10 minutes and 30 km before they manage to take them down. I always wear my brown pants when encountering anyone with torps.
Wow, that FDL hull went down like papier mache.
Edit: And so did that Anaconda, I think I'll keep my 2 point defenses and make a mental note NOT to charge at susp looking keelbacks. [noob]
Did they buff the torpedo speed or something?
With reverbs all it takes is as certain amount of hits and the shield generator goes down, be it a Corvette or an FdL. Once the generator goes down, there's no getting it back up without docking. Once the shields are down, the thrusters are next to go leaving the ship spinning out of control and completely helpless. Killing the ship after that is like taking candy from a baby. Reverbs are only useful when the pilot you're using them against doesn't know they're being employed, or as others have said, in a wing where one ship acts as a missile boat while the rest of the wing is the main firepower. Personally I can't stand using them as I consider them a cheap gank tactic, not a measure of straight up skill.
I was unaware that C1 missiles did that much damage on Anacondas and Ferdys. I'm guessing the former had no extra armor (master) and the latter had lightweight modifications.
Theoretically you should be able to do a reboot and jump away, if you don't explode first.
What are you talking about, not once have I mentioned the shield and shield damage. I'm talking about HULL damage. It's the reverb special effect that does the damage; there's no defense against it if you get hit. If the CMDR using it knows what they're doing they'll have their opponent dead within seconds of them losing the thrusters, which was clearly what happened in the FdL matchup. If you watch the end of the video you can see the ship spinning out of control.

I'm surprised class 1 missiles do so much HULL damage on Anacondas and Ferdys. HULL damage, HULL HULL HULL. [noob]
Yes, I do get what you're talking about timbero, please calm down now. Obviously the missiles DO cause quite a bit of damage to the hull in a very short amount of time. You have the video for proof after all, so perhaps going forward into the future you can not be so surprised.
The missiles might have been +30%dmg synth ammo, too.

That is lame. Oh well bow to the engineer gods. lol
