Polite CODE pirate... Plus Asp vs large ship advice?

Sorry, but what is CODE?

Organized group of pirates. I'd seen them post in the forum before, but didn't read much about what they were all about.

See, the one thing I DID remember was that they offered "safe passage" to those who paid a fee, by offering them a password to use when encountering Code pirates. Since that was literally all I knew about them, I was afraid that those who didn't know the code got spaced.

40T of biowaste and 40T of explosives. I like it!

I filled up my Type6 with biowaste and 1 ton of rare cargo. Waited to get interdicted by a pirate python. Jettisoned everything, and told him I got all this just for him, and that there's a rare in there somewhere. He didn't really have a sense of humor, because he killed me after. (what an a-hole) Still worth it! :D

Oh, I don't mind surrendering if I know they're an honorable pirate. :) I've done it before. But I didn't know for sure where this guy stood and risked running. And once he started shooting I thought I was pretty much committed to the chase.

At least I know now that running from a Clipper or bigger directly simply isn't an option ;)

Well, from the pirate's perspective, killing you will gain him or her nothing. It might even be bad for business, as you might chose to play solo if piracy is enough of a hassle.
If you try running, the logical response from the pirate is to prevent your escape by shooting you into submission.
Your demise is still not desired by the pirate at this point.

If you go to hypercruise instead of supercruise, your fsd will charge at the normal rate. You can't get masslocked if you go to another system, but it charges slower than supercruise as always.

Be watchful though when you have arrived in the other system, as these guys will try to follow you and interdict you again.

I have just changed back to my asp. I have come across a few pirates etc. who feel the need to take my cargo. I have set up commands for voice attack, that does automatically what I need. as soon as command is issued. setting up evasive commands and dropping mines chaff and using counter measures has not let me down YET ! touching wood for luck while I type this. lol.

True, but some people are just a-holes ;)

One thing, even if I learn to evade I'm going to try and remember and drop something for their effort. In a roleplaying sense it would be to occupy them so they don't interdict me again to take everything, but in actuality it would be pirate charity. Good chase, here's something for your effort. ;)

That was worth reading the thread for all on it's own.... +rep :D

Personally, I'm waiting for a player to interdict my Vulture....it has no cargo capacity at all, it's all weapons systems.

Certainly, my 2 large bursts eat NPC Clippers for breakfast ;)

It'll be an interesting encounter.

True. I wish I could alter my "eject all" button to "eject 5 tons" button (random or whatever is at the top of the list) and use that as a pirate charity button ;) . I don't want to distract myself in an intense situation by having to search menus for what to drop. But I like the idea of outwitting a pirate (in the way you described) and leaving something for their trouble as I get away).

Most pirates will cargo scan you however :p

Good to hear, that there is still honor among thieves.

There is, but most traders I've come up against have chosen death (admittedly I haven't been pirating long). So far I've met only one who dropped loot when I got him down to 10% hull 0% drives and he saw the limpets coming.

Most just sit there spinning off into space, limpets and shooting the cargo hatch will get a limited amount of cargo out but usually I only get ~10 bits max and have to choose between killing them on principle and letting them reboot drives and fly off. So far I've been letting them fly off, but my frustration is starting to make me reconsider :D

So I encountered a pirate from CODE tonight... Told me to stand down or he'd open fire.

I was afraid he'd shoot me anyway so I ran. I'm in an A rigged Asp and he was in a Clipper.

Problem 1. He's faster.
Problem 2. He mass locks (well, slows it down greatly)

Sooo... running wasn't the best idea. He stripped my shields and beat the crap out of me, all before my drive could charge.

Fortunately he didn't destroy me, just my engines.

Now, before they introduced reboot/repair that was a death sentence. Now its an opportunity to reconsider ones previous decision of non compliance, so I drop my cargo.

Pirate does not finish me off and I have time to reboot and limp back home.

Surprisingly it only cost 12k to repair... And given my insurance would have been 1.3 million, that's a good deal. So thanks to the pirate that truly did only want my loot. If I ever decide to take on CODE pirates, I'll return the favor ;)

However, it got me thinking, what if I was in that scenario and the guy was just out for blood? I couldn't have run away, so how could I have stood a chance? Tactics are different for NPCs than CMDRs, so what would work best? Boost and flip with FA off? Shoot backwards? Get in close and try to stay on his tail? (could an Asp even maneuver like that?

Funny how fighting NPCs is in no way practice for the real thing ;)

I don't think there is much an ASP could do against a clipper, certainly not one manned by someone who knows how to use it.

Not impossible but very hard.

The same as a Clipper vs an FDL

Sometimes its just outclassed.

I don't think they will interdict you in a vulture (I sure as hell wouldn't)....they want easy cargo, not a fair fight :) I'm thinking about breaking into pirating with my vulture though...

Yup, pirates are not looking to have a 1-on-1 combat session. Hit easy targets, take what they can and move on.
