It would be a nice feature for those inter-galactic jumps of 100's of light years, but no mainly because I don't want to be told not to use the autopilot (like the smart-a** port controller does).

You are talking utter nonsense and you know it. It's an autopilot. Please keep on topic. We are not talking about some fictious God mode. We just want to remove some of the tedium!

I voted no but as i said, it was perhaps kneejerk and on thinking about it i accept i would not be bothered if they put it in (taking up a moduke slot of course and i must not be more efficient than doing it yourself) i just woukdnt use it.

It worked then. Good for it. It means I get to play ED now.

And yes. I have had a fight outside a station. Some pirates are just so stupid they'll follow me all the way to the landing pad to pick a fight with me. In some cases I just go into the hangar and let the station express it's displeasure with said pirate. Other times I'll abort landing and turn my guns on the pirate stupid enough to follow me in.

And it may just be you old timer but I actually like having some place to go when I go looking to pick a fight with someone rather then trying to entice someone to come after ME.

And thank god for the differences. While I'm sure I might enjoy the original, the reasons I bought this game are still valid. They're still there. And I'll be damned before I let anyone tell me "Was better back in the day".

Was better back in the day! In my day, lavian brandy was only a nickle and we had to go uphill through witch space BOTH WAYS!
We didn't even have this new fangled "flight assist". If we wanted to have fun, we push each other out the airlock. Papa always used to promise a quarter to the last person who popped!

Now, help me find my teeth...

isn't space, one of those unpredictable things that said autopilot could just fly straight into a sun. All an autopilot is, is basically FA On, basically maintain heading and speed. Where as coding something to avoid every orbital body thats in the way of said station in super cruise would take quite a bit of coding. I understand the Docking Computer being an autopilot, since its close, it has nothing in its path that could be potentially hazardous. But an Autopilot from supercruise to station docking is getting rather complicated due to any number of things.

Actually you can have AP, but with one big proviso....... if the AP craps out and totals your ship then tough, your insurance is null and void so no rebuys, you will have to swallow the loss of your ship and its full financial hit so you will be out 150 mil or more for you annie. I like it.:)

Also the Autopilot gets to use your escape pod and leaves you in the crap house so you lose everything and die with you ship. No wakeys for you, the new ironman mode.[cry]

What I find weird about this is those who don't want this would never have to experience it.
So long as there is no monetary, tactical or strategic advantage to buying, equipping and using it - who cares?

Why would you want to deprive someone else of it?

I'm pretty sure I would never use it, but I'm all for people getting it.
It makes sense (to me). There's a Docking Computer that 'lands your ship on giant rotating space station', so the whole 'ship is moving CMDR in charge' thing is totally bunk already.
There's even scope for it to add gameplay down the line. One off the bat: It only works where there's a Nav Beacon. Pirates can hack / compromise beacons and disable incoming lazy traders.. and so on.

It's a mechanic to play with. Moar depth and nobody loses anything. No?

This has been talked over so many times that I genuinely feel people should just read the old threads. They cover all the ground from every angle.
On a slightly seperate note there seems to be barely any reason to try to reason out whatever your particular preference for whatever particular change is being discussed on the grounds that it's the future so of course it would be the way I want.

Many claim that an autopilot will be like hitting x to win.

Well, given that I can't be bothered to play this tedious game, and neither can my son, for whom I bought an account, because of the sheer tedium, could we actually have a hit x to win please?

(FD writers, take note of the excellent clarity, grammar and punctuation - you could do this too.)

XD You get Repped.

Idiotic. The idea that because something has been discussed many times before makes it irrelevant is stupid.

I really can't see the reason to be insulting. I haven't said that people should not post again and have not said that it is irrelevant. What I have said, which apparently you missed, is that reading the previous threads would be useful. For clarity I say this because all the ground appears to have been covered multiple times.

I'll guarantee you that everyone here saying no to an AP doesn't and would never use a DC and if it wasn't in the game and FD wanted to put it in, would fight tooth and nail to deny YOUR FUN

I voted no. I use a docking computer. So your guarantee is wrong. And this is a very dead horse.
