Theres the old slippery slope argument, geez
Oh come on. Do you think future players will be happy sitting there, watching their ships autojump from Sothis to Haghole with only minimal input when they need to scoop, and not start thinking FD should just cut out all the pointless bits where the ship's manoeuvring and jumping by itself? The end result is practically the same.

People aren't happy about it now.. there definitely needs to be more to do in the game. And if the day comes when more to do is added the autopilot could be even more useful. As someone stated before you could be studying system maps, planning your next moves, planning where you might go in the gal map, reading the galnet news, and possibly more if engrossing content ever gets added.

Did it hurt when you landed at the bottom of that slippery slope? I'm wondering if all that hyperbole provided adequate braking on the way down.

You don't get it. You are asking them to nerf travel on the basis of it being time-consuming. Combat is time consuming. Trading is time consuming (and you cannot say trading is any more exciting than honk/jump). Rather than say, "oh you're just being hyperbolic", maybe you should try arguing the damned point. The point being that there is a fundamental aspect to the game that, judging by this poll, 70% of the player base enjoy. You want to bring out a module that removes this aspect. You the new argue that it is optional. Well that argument, as I was clearly showing in my post if you had cared to actually pay attention to the meaning of what I was stating rather than post a nonsense retort, is flawed, as you can apply that logic to any part of the game. So you need a better argument than "it is optional", otherwise you could automate everything and just say that it is optional. I thought I had made that quite clear, but obviously it went over your head.

You're correct, I haven't actually stated any reasoning for my opinion that AP could be in the game and that's garbage so here goes:

It's not the time consuming part that bothers me. It can take as long as it takes, thats the game and that's fine. I think AP would be a great feature because travel is a series of spikes to required focus.

If you're making a multiple jump journey, you start by engaging your hyper drive. You hit the jump key, wait like 10-15 seconds to charge your drive, wait another 5 to jump, then hit a loading screen for another 15 seconds. You're literally locked out of performing any other action for almost 40 seconds. Then upon arrival, you IMMEDIATELY need to hit the brakes or maneuver to line up your next jump which takes roughly 5 seconds, wait for any cooldowns, then press the jump key again.

You're essentially doing 5-8 seconds worth of actual skilled work for every 45-55 seconds of travel. 40 seconds of down time leading to 5 seconds of focus, followed by another 40 seconds of down time really weighs on me. It's even worse in supercruise but at least there I can read GalNet or whatever.

I'd be the first to admit I have an absolutely frighteningly short attention span, but I'd also note my internal clock is very finely tuned. Theoretically I'd benefit from 5 seconds of focus per every 45 seconds but instead it makes me insane.

The other reason that I would like to see some AP is because I'm almost always in favor of our ships being more capable. I like the idea of flying fancy spaceships with unheard of capabilities.

After voting "No" I looked at the results and couldn't help noticing that the split between the yays & nays was almost exactly the same as the split between the Instant/Delayed Transfer crowd in recent informal polls.

I actually only responded to you because I got taken to task for doing exactly what you did. Turnabout is fair play?

Also, im not sure what your prediction about my future posting actions is all about. But i will add that you pretty much exemplified the point I was trying to make (but got chastised for; admittedly semi-fairly).

Edit incoming hang on.

I clearly wasn't talking to you.

In that case, a bit odd you responded.

Next time when you don't have an adequate reply, just move on :)

Just wanted to send you a link to see what i was trying to explain. The video of a simple autopilot that someone had already created. Its easer to just watch then for me to explain. I'm mostly certain that you didn't bother to watch it though. Oh well

I have some strange sensation that both of you arguing roughly the same thing, but due to miscommunication it seems you're at odds with each other.

Far from sure about this, but I do get that feeling :)

I didn't. Because it was unrelated to the point I made.

Oh yeah... the people in this thread sound so happy about what is like to travel in ed. Just read all the suggestions they give to the op on how to deal with it

I didn't. Because it was unrelated to the point I made.

Haha! I knew it!

Yes i know... i posted it

So you have a go at me for posting something somebody else has already posted because the argument has been made before, yet now here you are and you are posting something that YOU have already posted with precisely the same argument. You must be having a giggle. You must know you're being hypocritical, right?

I'm the one that posted it originally the first time and then again the second time. To illustrate how boring traveling is. You said 70% of the people here are happy with the travel mechanics. I directed you to that thread to read the suggestions explorers give to others on ways to deal with the boredom of traveling in ED. None of their suggestions give me the sense that is really true.

No... i knew you didn't watch it.
Even though I know the clip you posted, since it was a repost and shows some CMDR using a sort of autopilot with the keyboard top right in screen, why would you post this clip to me when it's unrelated to the point I made?

Let me ask you. What point did I make that you were responding to?

I honestly don't remember now, alot going on all at once on here.

I know. You have posted this now twice. You had a go at me for posting something that had already been posted. Now you are making the same argument a third time. You are arguing hypocritically.

Besides which your argument doesn't hold water. People watch YouTube or BGS or read a book while exploring? Howmis having an autopilot going to change that, except disconnect people even more from the game?
