Pondering options with PP2 ... Questions RE: CMDRs, Squadrons, Minor Factions

o7 Commanders.

With Power Play 2 launched, I'm considering my path forward as a Commander, Squadron Leader, and PMF founder. So I have questions which may have overlapping answers. I've searched around, but much of the existing information pertained to the old PP system, and I'm assuming is outdated.

My apologies if my questions have been answered elsewhere. If so, please direct me to that thread, thanks!

Commander Background:
  1. I'm an active commander (playing 5+ times per week).
  2. I am currently not pledged to any Power.

Squadron Background:
  1. I am the leader of a squadron with about 88 members.
  2. Our play style is very casual. There are really no rules or restrictions regarding our activites other than avoid being a jack wagon.
  3. Our squadron is pledged to a PMF of our creation.
  4. Our squadron is engaged in the BGS.
  5. Our squadron is not pledged to a Power.
  6. Game Mechanic: I can set and later change my Squadron allegiance to any PMF (as long as I am allied with them).
  7. Game Mechanic: I can set and later change my Squadron allegiance to any Power.

Player Minor Faction Background:
  1. PMF Govenment: Cooperative .... With PP2, government type no longer impacts the Powers ability to take over and/or control systems.
  2. PMF Allegiance: Independent.
  3. PMF Territory: Present in 22 systems. Control of 7 systems.
  4. Home system: Unoccupied by a Power.
  5. PMF Controlled Systems (7 total):
    1. One system in territory controlled by Torval (Empire)
    2. One system in territory controlled by Winters (Federation).
    3. Five systems in territory unoccupied by any Powers (including Home system, as noted above).
  6. PMF Inhabited Systems (22 total): Several of our inhabited systems in territory controlled by Zeminal or Winter, or are unoccupied by Powers

Questions / Comments
  1. If I pledge a Power as a Commander, but keep the squadron unpledged, is there an impact to my squadron and PMF?
  2. If our Squadron pledges to a Power, does that in turn link the PMF to the Power since the Squadron is pledged to a PMF?
  3. Does it matter at all that my PMF Allegiance is Independent? My understanding is once you create a PMF, it's Government and Allegiance are set in concrete and can't be changed. I think Allegiance is more pertinent to the Superpowers (Fed, Imperial, Alliance), and not as important to Power Play, but please enlighten me.
  4. Anything else I need to keep in mind before I make any changes?

Thanks in advance for any guidance!!!!

I'm trying to decide on which one to pledge to as well. It would have to be a power that I can support mainly through combat and one that gives bounty bonuses. It's between Lavigny and Archer for me. Once pledged, I intend it to be permanent, so I'm taking my time to decide

Same for me. What power perks or bonus's match my style of gameplay. Extra credit for the powers near my current home system in the bubble, since I am allied with alot of the nearby systems factions

Hi CMDR,

This is how i think things stand at the the moment. It may change though over time with player feedback.

  1. If I pledge a Power as a Commander, but keep the squadron unpledged, is there an impact to my squadron and PMF?
No
  1. If our Squadron pledges to a Power, does that in turn link the PMF to the Power since the Squadron is pledged to a PMF?

I don't think this has been tested yet, maybe someone will create a new squadron but I'd suggest even if a new squad was created to support a power. The powers will only interact with the CMDR if the CMDR has pledged to power themselves

No, it doesn't;t matter that you are Independent. At this time FDev have not made it option for us to change allegiances at PMF level
  1. Anything else I need to keep in mind before I make any changes?
There is lots going on and I recommend not to make any changes until the situation has stabilised.

No. Especially with the complete decoupling of powerplay and BGS that came with PP2.0, minor factions and powerplay have essentially no connection with each other.

No. You are correct that once a PMF has been created, it's government type and superpower allegiance cannot be changed, but just as with question 2, the decoupling of powerplay and BGS means that what your PMF looks like has no effect on powerplay.

Anything else I need to keep in mind before I make any changes?
I can't think of anything.

Good luck out there!

Thanks for your responses. I agree it's best to proceed with caution. Right now we have a relatively quiet neck of the woods and the last thing I need is for Zorval or Winters to come down on us like a house of bricks, haha.

I've pledged with lavigny. Only because our pmf is on what's currently the edge of the bubble just outside the influence of all but lavigny. Who in turn has started exploiting systems nearby. Having the empire behind us kinda makes sense in a weird sort of way. But for us it's just because of the fact she's so close where before there wasn't.
There's an exploited system nearby that we control.
We'd like to fortify it so it becomes perhaps even a stronghold though I doubt we can manage that, but we will endeavour.
My question is : currently perhaps due to low rankings within the powerplay rank system, we can only put 15 merits in and then it's locked out, how long is it before we can put another 15 merits in?
Sorry for hijacking this post but it seemed to have reached its conclusion.

The amount of merits that can be hauled looks like it will increase as your pledged level increases.

Thx I appreciate it

Unfortunately I work nights so I'm on shift atm so can't get at my pc!
But I've booked days off inc what's left of this weekend so I will be experimenting hehehe.

Knew that.. lol
No it's when you collect them, take them to a targeted exploited system like the one we're targeting cos it's local and ours, and once you deliver them, you cannot spam it there's a time lock on the next delivery of 15 merits. Just wanted to know how long that lock is. And I'm assuming it'll decrease in duration as we rank up. Like the amount of merits we can take, increasing as we rank up.

Isn't that what the screen says, the time lock is 30 minutes and there no option as yet to fast track the time lock?

Oh so i get it.. its 30 minutes both ends...mmm Let's hope that decreases as we rank up. Or at the very least we're allowed to contribute more merits per 30 minutes as we're promoted

Were you previously unpledged? And can you switch your pledge in the future?.... I believe you can, but wanted to check with another squadron on that question.
