Positive Actions Causing Negative Effect?

Here is a strange one.

A friend and I have been working in a system, testing and learning the BGS system, and what we can do to improve a factions influence. But what we are doing, is having a negative effect;

1. Turning in Exploration Data - We both dropped off around 1 million in data
2. Profitable Trade - We both purchased goods from the faction controlled station, and sold for a profit. Approximately 2860 total goods transported for 4,400,000 in profits.
3. Turning in Bounties - I turned in 2 million in bounties, ONLY for the faction being tested.

Result: Influence Drop of 2%. (While the Economy and Security bars saw very measurable increases)

Faction States;
Economy: Boom
Security: None
System Population: 2.2 Million

Does anyone know what exactly we are doing wrong here? We tested all week, and got varied results. The faction owns the station where we are performing the tests, we are not interacting with any of the other factions in the system. No other players are present. On Monday, I think we saw a 3% Drop, Tuesday a 5% gain, and we did nothing different between those days.

I have read the guides that have been very painstakingly compiled over the years, and none of the information seems to work the way it says.

In another system, we hauled 10,000 tons of biowaste into an industrial station (1000 each, for 5 days), and had zero effect. (Read that it caused outbreaks)

Edit: We are able to swing Security and Economy bars very easily, but the effect on Influence does not match those changes at present.

First and foremost, sounds like you're not alone. Check traffic reports, and even then, traffic reports only show players entering the system... anyone leaving the system (and not coming back) who logged on in that system won't show. Also, when are you checking traffic reports?

That said... on your point 2:
- Purchasing goods doesn't have any effect, only selling them. If you're selling to stations owned by other factions, you'll be boosting them.

On point 3:
Who's issuing the bounties you're handing in?

Also, what system? It's ok if you don't want to say, but that'll make it a lot easier to tell if you really are in a sleepy nowhere system, or if you're likely to be seeing traffic.

Biowaste haulage missions cause outbreaks. Very common in some agricultural destinations as a result.

It's not at all clear if biowaste hauling does - especially since an industrial station wouldn't demand the good in the first place, which might change things too - certainly no-one has shown conclusively that it does, though Event states are still sufficiently obscure that it's also hard to absolutely prove it doesn't.

Which system. Don't be paranoid, nobody cares, really.

1m exp data sounds a bit trivial, and number of pages is far more important than value.

How many bounty hands in ? If it's 1 x 2m, then that's trivial. If it's 10 x 200k its a much bigger effect.

You want to add plenty of high inf missions to the mix. Input on all pots is important.

There are no good guides on anything any more. Virtually everything changed and the people who did them have left ed, gone to the toxic bgs discord, or now keep it secret.

So the best way that I have found to move Influence is through passenger missions. You have to be really careful about what type of passenger you are hauling, and the destination faction.

I was able to raise roughly 0.2% Influence per mission - decreasing 0.1% per every +million population (2 Million population as -0 for test medium). I tested this on 5 different native system factions in systems with no other traffic.

@Dommarraa I dropped off approximately 11 - with rewards varying from 25k to 100k+

-- I would be down with teaming up and putting together a NEW guide. I'll do the writing and data if we can get more CMDRs to assist with theory crafting and testing.

@Ian Doncaster " it's also hard to absolutely prove it doesn't." --
"We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win" JFK

Just to note - We have seen significant shortages in the following resources;

Bauxite
Building fabricators
Gallite
Power generators
Rutile
Thermal cooling units

Due to the new stations that were upgraded to Starports;

Harper Plant in the Fjorgyn system
Iqbal Hub in the HR 4979 system
Stephenson Dock in the Wolf 294 system
McQuarrie Landing in the Lambda-2 Tucanae system
Hartsfield Plant in the Potriti system
Rorschach Hub in the LHS 4058 system
Chargaff Installation in the Chakpa system
Nagata Vision in the Gally Bese system
Reilly Plant in the Eta Cephei system
Trevithick Vision in the Ninabin system

Its not the size that matters, its how often you hand them in:
Kill - Redeem Bonds - Kill - Redeem Bonds
is a more effective than:
Kill - Kill - Kill - Kill - Redeem Bonds

One of the silliest abbreviations on the internet that has so many meanings that even a context can no longer help.

But let me guess: Just For Kids?
The quote was from a speech given by John F Kennedy announcing the American Moon missions in the 1960's
