Possibly dumb question about Passenger Cabins....

Is it really worth it to use the Luxury ships?

I went from a Type 7 that I was using as a Hybrid Passenger/Trading ship because I noticed when I had my Dolphin that alot of stations had trade shipments that went to the same station as my passenger missions, but the Dolphin obviously had minimal space.

So I used the Type 7 for a long time, but recently upgraded to an Orca which is obviously MUCH faster and MUCH fancier, but I have noticed that due to the addition of the Luxury Cabin I can transport ALOT less people and very rarely do I even get to use the cabin itself and when I do the missions don't seem to be particularly lucrative or different in any way than other regular passenger missions.

Don't get me wrong I am in LOVE with the speed and maneuverability of the Orca especially considering its such a huge ship, but its the Luxury Cabin that has me not very impressed.

Am I missing something? Or is the Luxury Cabin just as lackluster as it seems to be.

Should I keep it or replace it with another Cabin class?

I regularly do passenger missions, with an Orca and an AspX. The Orca is fitted with a Luxury cabin : missions are a bit more lucrative, but not enough to absolutely justify the investment in a dedicated passenger ship. However the Luxury cabin extends the range of missions that are available, so... and the Orca has a good jump range and fair speed and manoeuvrability, so it does not require further mass optimization.

Concerning the number of passengers per cabin, as I do only VIP transport or sightseeing, it's not really a problem : these missions generally request room for a maximum of 6 passengers. But if you plan to do bulk passenger hauling, then Luxury are not needed.

Oh I had no idea the Luxury cabin affected the range of missions.

Thats interesting.

And as far as how I wanna play right now I am just grinding rep and money so I can get the Clipper and eventually the Cutter

I keep the two biggest racks for luxury.
I don't know that it made much difference.

All my favourite passengers were happy with Economy or Business, but the lesser Minor Factions always seemed to have criminals that would only get on board if the stateroom looked like Saddam Hussein's Trump's day room.

Let's clarify  : there's no to little difference in terms of payout between Luxury and other passenger cabin classes. However some missions require a Luxury cabin, so with a Luxury cabin these missions are accessible.

And I wish you good luck for your Imperial ranking ! But be warned that reaching Duke for the Cutter is a long way... a very long way :D Baron for the Clipper is much reachable however (and it's a nice ship with a surprising agility !!)

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we'd like to thank you for flying The Steely Dan. Please ensure your seat backs, tray tables, and partners are in their upright and locked positions as we make our final approach. New members of the Lightyear High Club may pick up their membership cards as they disembark."

A good load of passengers is a great payout.

Nice build ! However I wonder why the extra fuel tank and weapons ? I run my unarmed Orca with more or less the same passenger cabins layout, but with a half fuel tank and a fuel scoop. The jump range reaches nearly the 40 Ly... So why [???]?

I'd think think on a ship named Steely Dan, all of those rules would be optional.

OP, I just had the conversation in another thread. Someone convinced me that Luxury passengers pay well (might have been Indigo).

Good job on that T-7. I run a Python similarly, with a mix of cargo and bulk cabins.

Bought an Orca and plan on using it for in-bubble pleasure cruises. Maybe supplement them with some rares trading. A nice roleplaying departure.

I plan on doing the same when I get my Clipper. Pleasure cruises + Rare trading + Trade goods that go to the same stations as my passengers.

Basically this ^^

I keep one on my Orca just in case I get a really high paying VIP transport mission that requires it. Otherwise, I just stick a 1st class or lower passenger in there if I am about ready to head out with a full load of 4 VIPs.

If you are choosey... Those 4 missions can average up to 35 million for about 20 minutes work. :) If you happen to pull down one of those 15 Million A to for a Luxury passenger, then you are looking at closer to 45 Mil.

Also can anyone tell me this.

When they say "Delays will not affect their experience" how long does that that mean?

Like can I do MULTIPLE missions while they wait and they are totes fine with that or is that like 1 or 2 missions and then they wanna be at their spot?

The only thing that matters is the mission timer and whether the passenger gets upset at the ship being scanned.
I had a passenger get miffed when I encountered a tourist ship about 4000 ly from the bubble. The tourist vessel scanned my ship. Once that happened, that passenger insisted I take him to the closest station within 30 minutes.
Uhhh.... No stations out there.
So, after 30 mins, he ejected himself.
So.... That guy is floating out in space 4000 ly from anywhere. I basically consider his decision to eject as committing suicide, regardless of being in a lifepod.

So, as long as the mission timer hasn't expired and they're not y about getting scanned, you can do 100+ missions in between and it won't matter.

Jeez, what a drama queen.

Well now I just feel dumb.

I have been only taking single high paying (Million +) passenger missions and been IMMEDIATELY taking them to their destinations to avoid them getting upset. Even at the cost of avoiding taking other missions so as not to delay the mission too long.

*Bang head repeatedly on desk*

Passenger missions seem like a waste of time, 46 MILLION credits for 42kly there and back which takes a few weeks are you kidding? Only reason I can see to do that is if you love exploring but other than that it's a waste.
I only do the transport missions, they pay a lot for 3 jumps my highest was 2.5 million to drop off a Federal navy General to the next system over

No those are SIGHTSEEING missions.

Passenger missions are when you just take someone to another system and drop them off.

I made 3.7 million just now from a 26ly taxi mission. That was one jump in my Orca. Took me maybe 4 mins.

Yea those are good, I call all those missions passenger missions because they are still passengers
