General / Off-Topic Post Likes and thanks, a poll

I agree with all these as it is nice to know if people like your work, but can be disheartening if they don't. You will find people going on Steam and thumbing down reviews of games even if they don't own the game. I would hate to see that type of mob mentality to show up here because that is a very slippery slope. Some people get kicks out of thumbing down things for no reason except to be mean. This is a very friendly forum and I would hate to see it change.

When I post my work here, it it usually to get some constructive help to make it better. If someone tells me that they like something and why, or dislikes something and suggests a way to improve it in a friendly way that is great, but if I were to simply see a bunch of dislikes with no comments as to why I might be tempted to stop visiting this forum at all. I am a member on another forum (I will not mention which one) where I hardly ever post anything any more simply because of that. The other forum ended up forming cliques and if you were not part of that clique your work was shredded without mercy.

i get what you are saying but i feel a button can save some time and it doesn't have to be a negative thing, i use it in my own community and everyone loves that like/thanks button we use. not everyone enjoys to write but want to have an option to say thank you because like me a person with autism i prefer a button.

Who said anything about a dislike button????
Not me i only want a thanks or a like kind of system without the whole negative aspect.

Thanks and likes are different than the karma reputation system

I voted no although I'm clearly in the minority [squeeeeee]. Guess I'm a bit old fashioned in that I prefer just to post if I wanted to thank someone or say that I liked their work. I dunno, I just think idly hitting like and dislike buttons is a bit depersonalised (if that's even a word). I prefer feedback be it positive or negative to be committed to text - it's hard to reply to a 'like' after all.

I totally agree. If a person is afraid of posting his opinion of something because he doesn't want anyone to post a rebuttal, I say don't give him a cowards way out.
