So it still handles like a Python/Corvette but you can run away fast in it.
Which makes it unique, correct?
Okay Im looking at the patch notes again and:
So its manuverability with less pips was increased and thats it.
Well that should help as I'm rarely in 4 pips to engines. Pre buff mine does 408 with one... so its plenty fast enough without it. Now if she could just turn.....
Which makes it unique, correct?
The Mamba now has the highest acceleration in the game, more than the Eagle. It can go from 605 (combat loadout) in one direction to 605 in the other in less than 5 seconds. While that may not be "faster" than a Clipper, it still takes the Clipper 7 seconds just to reach 615 from 0, and nearly 3 times longer to make the same turnaround maneuver. Having wide hardpoints and poor acceleration is a fine tradeoff for the extra hull and regen it has.
If you were to put the Clipper against the Mamba in a race through an obstacle course that had sharp turns, the Mamba would blow the Clipper away.
Yeah, it's forward and boost acceleration is very impressive and unlike most every other ship in the game, it accelerates just as fast (non-boosted, of course) in reverse; which is probably a good explanation for why the drive segments look so large, despite the class 5 thurster module (a lot of thrust accelerating and redirection/ducting hardware).
So, is it now the A-Wing we asked for?![]()

Nah, A-wing was actually the fastest ship in the galaxy(in Sublight) baring Prince Isolder's personal fighter.
No idea about cannon though!
The idea of a high speed hit 'n' run combat craft would be interesting, the issue with that is ED combat is almost never one-shot kills like modern aviation (or, likely space) combat. If you were trying to take out another craft with high speed passes, you'd need to outfit a BFG-3000 (or do a hell of a lot of passes).
Still, having a craft that can escape once shields go down - or catch (any?) escaping craft - is handy though.
If running away from combat is your first obligation, an unarmed lightweight Courier with enhanced performance thrusters is probably the better option, though.
My Mamba goes 592 m/s fully armored and ready for combat, but still flies like a Viper IV with worse lateral thrusters.
I love the ship anyway (probably because I love the Vipers).
The speed is fine now, it is just that rather poor agility...
I’m not a combat pilot by any means, but is the pitch rate particularly bad on the Mamba? I saw the rebuy screen for the first time in around 500 hrs testing it in Haz Res, against a blooming Python… don’t like it. [haha]
Its not just the speed, the mamba has impressive firepower to go along with it.
