Post Patch STOCK Mamba boosts to 387m/s | Frontier's Speed Demon Unleashed!

Okay Im looking at the patch notes again and:

So its manuverability with less pips was increased and thats it.

Well that should help as I'm rarely in 4 pips to engines. Pre buff mine does 408 with one... so its plenty fast enough without it. Now if she could just turn.....

Still turns like a brick but you can boost more often and its turning while boosting isnt terrible.

Lifted these quotes from another Mamba thread. Thought these might be useful in getting a perspective on the new ship's maneuverability.

The Mamba now has the highest acceleration in the game, more than the Eagle. It can go from 605 (combat loadout) in one direction to 605 in the other in less than 5 seconds. While that may not be "faster" than a Clipper, it still takes the Clipper 7 seconds just to reach 615 from 0, and nearly 3 times longer to make the same turnaround maneuver. Having wide hardpoints and poor acceleration is a fine tradeoff for the extra hull and regen it has.

If you were to put the Clipper against the Mamba in a race through an obstacle course that had sharp turns, the Mamba would blow the Clipper away.

Yeah, it's forward and boost acceleration is very impressive and unlike most every other ship in the game, it accelerates just as fast (non-boosted, of course) in reverse; which is probably a good explanation for why the drive segments look so large, despite the class 5 thurster module (a lot of thrust accelerating and redirection/ducting hardware).

So, is it now the A-Wing we asked for? :D

I am soooo tempted 😁 Don't even like the FDL but quirky ships are a different matter.

Which makes it unique, correct?

The idea of a high speed hit 'n' run combat craft would be interesting, the issue with that is ED combat is almost never one-shot kills like modern aviation (or, likely space) combat. If you were trying to take out another craft with high speed passes, you'd need to outfit a BFG-3000 (or do a hell of a lot of passes).

Still, having a craft that can escape once shields go down - or catch (any?) escaping craft - is handy though.

I can see the mamba used in a wing with its fast pursuit and firepower, but the crappy agility guarantees it wont be a 1v1 favorite.

If running away from combat is your first obligation, an unarmed lightweight Courier with enhanced performance thrusters is probably the better option, though.

Its not just the speed, the mamba has impressive firepower to go along with it.

Still needs faster charging shields (6C BiWeave ... pleeaaassssee) or better agility so the shields get hit less. At the moment, even though I prefer the hard point placement and central pilots seat on the Mamba, an FDL is just better. Heck, a well built Krait is better. Which is a shame.

Soooo... just finished trying it out with the new speed boost, the only thing missing is Hull upgrade, boost speed with combat loadout: 617ms, hull, atm, approx. 1300, bi weave shield 818 Mj, resistances: (all approx), 60 thermal, 54 kinetic and 68 explosive. 3 RA boosters, 1 HD, Weapons: huge fixed beam, LR thermal vent, 2 large missile lauchers with effects, 2 small cannon with effects. The long range weapons add a bit of weight, probably closer to 620 with normal.
Going to keep lightweight alloys and upgrade to heavy duty.
I like it, great for NPC bounty hunting, I'll be trying it out with the squadron within the next couple of days, so I'm hoping it will do OK against the FDL (I'm not hopeful in beating the other members, I'm only squad target!!), but if I can run away and recharge, I'm happy.

edited for correct resistances.
Edit number 2, missiles are light weight mod, from 8 tons to 0,8 ton each

The speed is fine now, it is just that rather poor agility...

I’m not a combat pilot by any means, but is the pitch rate particularly bad on the Mamba? I saw the rebuy screen for the first time in around 500 hrs testing it in Haz Res, against a blooming Python… don’t like it. [haha]

The Corvette has better pitch so..... Make of that what you will
