Power Play 2.0 Merits Progression Feedback

I already dropped PP2.0 I chose a power that supports one of my main professions which is Bounty Hunting but the Merits gained from Bounty hunting are laughable.

It feels like i have to give up my life in order to ever reach max Rank with a power so nope. Not doing that.

100 Merits for a Elite Anaconda Kill that pays a little over a Million while one Million Trade profit from rare good gives 1000 Merits
Merc Activities like Ground Combat and Conflict Zones in Space give ZERO Merits. If Frontier does not Act fast power play will just die again but we all know that Frontier is only fast in nerfing stuff.
Rejoice as rare amount avalaible has been nerfed so it's no on part with bounty hunting

Your problem being wanting to be max rank asap. I don't care at all about my rank, will get there in the end, all I care about is beating the imps.

I agree with the general consensus here. Rares have been by far the most worthwhile activity. Depending which power you are pledged to, combat in ships is fairly decent. I got around 4000 merits for one CZ. If I was pledged to a power who prioritised combat, it would have been higher. Going to test this again today with a different power. I've already changed 3 times, for science. Reached 44000 merits for Aisling, (mostly from rares and experimenting with other things) going to change to the Empress today to see how much higher the merit rewards are for bounties and Czs. Either way, the smaller merit related activities need a boost imo. On foot stuff and stronghold carrier hacking should be higher to relate to the time, and risk taken to complete.

It is all brand new so this is a time to messing around for me, once it becomes clearer and more balanced, I'll be able to make a decision on who to join longer term.

No it hasn't. Apparerntly rares supplies skyrocket when the system is in boom, and when it's not anymore, they return to normal.
Even when the rares are around max of 70 (but mostly between 30-45) it only took me around 45 mins to get a full type 8 with 352 tonnes, sell them and gain 9000 merits. Really quick progression compared to everything else I've tried.

Don't do that. Check out the leaderboard. The Aisling-pledged top agent CMDR ended up on rank 128 with more than 1M merits after the first week... :)
I'm not looking to jump the ranks in ridiculous speed. Just experimenting with different powers, using gameplay that I enjoy.. Combat is my main thing, but like to do whatever tickles my fancy at the time. I've never relogged for mats or gone for absolute meta, it isn't why I play elite! I am in a squadron that teaches new players, so this is a time to learn about the new systems so that I an pass on the knowledge, not gain rank in an absurd speed.. I've already changed power 3 times, going to try quite a few of them before deciding which direction to go in :) fair play if that's how they want to play the game, but that's not my style at all.

Sure thing, experiment as you wish. I only meant it was not worth it to change powers with the express purpose of finding a better paying one, because your current one was good enough at that. :)

Ah I get ya :) I am going to try Delain also, to see how fun the gameplay is for doing naughty stuff, and if it is worth it for cmdrs who want to progress their rank this way. With the empress, I wanted to check how much more the bounty and cz payouts are, all in the name of science!

Get organized. Groups like the Hutton Truckers have devised ways to fill up a carrier with rares in a matter of hours.

As I understand it, higher level PP 2.0 is s group activity, so there should be a few incentives to get a group together and organize their activities.
IMO there’s a difference between “higher level Power Play” activity what an “individual play style” activity be looking for:

High Level Power Play Activity
  • Group based
  • Organised
  • Huge time involved
  • Designed to shift the balance of power in the galaxy

Individual Play Style
  • Single player
  • Looking to experience PP involvement
  • No designs on influencing high-level galaxy change
  • Mainly focused on unlocking module rewards

To balance those two aims (galactic conquest / module unlocks) within the same mechanisms is a very tricky wire to walk … increase the merits too much and the numbers generated from the organised groups will very quickly get out or hand.

My suggestion would be to:
  • Balance the merits received across different activities but without increasing overall merit progress beyond the “best” that is available right now
  • Decrease the merits required to unlock each rank but limit level ups within a cycle, such that modules can be earned at a rate for 1 module every 2 - 3 cycles.
  • Merits beyond the “level up limit” earned in a cycle still count towards galactic influence but not for ranking up

That way individuals just trying to work through and unlock stuff can do so within a defined amount of time without requiring huge grind BUT groups that want to grind - irrespective of rewards - because they are playing the galactic influence game can still do so.

You mean other than being able to earn credits without deviating from exploring/trading/mining etc? Plus each power has perks for specific jobs, these perks increase as you rank up. A trader pledged to Mahon for example, will see increased bonuses on sales as they increase in rank.
Only in a tiny handful of systems, and only in trade bonds which is 10% of the income of what your wingmates sold. So you get a 50% bonus added to a 10% bonus that only applies if you're in a group. Also it only applies to rare goods.

Said bonds may not account for the fact that you could simply just get a better price selling the goods somewhere else.

You don't even get a small fraction of said bonus until grinding multiple hours.

This is absolutely ridiculous, I pledge for Edmund Mahon, spent almost 10 hours bounty hunting, taking risks, popping Elite Anaconda too, and I only got about 12k merits. In the meantime, you have people doing trading that have multiple hundreds of thousands for merits... How can this be so imbalanced??? Really poor game design...

Imagine living through 11+ years of this. It's one of the reasons I took a massive break. Frontier love grind. love it. I had hoped the recent changes to engineering was the dam wall breaking. Apparently not..
