Power play looks like a great role play opportunity but is it really worth the time?
Also if yes what aspect? Combat? Trading?

And yes, I think for someone who wants to roleplay a certain way, Powerplay is worthwhile, though I'm not aware of any PP groups that place special emphasis on RPing.
It depends on what you want. For me, the most value I've gotten out of Powerplay has been the community side of things - coordinating with others to try to thwart the plans of other powers (and, obviously, making plans yourselves!) In terms of sheer gameplay stuff, it depends on the power. Aisling Duval, for example, has a really useful bonus to BGS influence in her systems if you're rank 5 (the rank 2 bonus kinda sucks.) Several powers have increased bounty payouts. LYR gives a boost to payouts for exploration data. Mahon and Torval are great for traders. etc. PP is deeply flawed, but when I got into Powerplay is when I really started to get addicted to Elite.
At the end of the day, though, Powerplay is a time and money sink, unless you invest a lot of time in it (by getting your merits through combat, i.e. undermining.) At that point, having done it like that before, it feels like a job, and burnout set in pretty quickly for me when I tried it that way. And really, there are faster ways of making money if that's something you really care about. But the community side of PP has been priceless to me: there's no greater feeling than working together with friends to achieve a common goal, and seeing it succeed, and even suffering the challenging times together.

It has a lot of flaws and could be improved in many ways, but it can be a lot of fun. I've been pledged to Felicia Winters for more than a year and I wouldn't still be playing this game if it wasn't for the changing objectives week after week and the people I've met in the Federal community.
You can help your Power in many ways since almost every activity in the game can influence Powerplay. Combat and hauling are usually the main activities but you can help by exploring or mining if that's what you like to do.
One important bit of advice: If you're doing Powerplay by yourself you're doing it wrong. Every Power has a discord server and a subreddit. Ignore the subreddit and join the discord server for your Power if you really want to enjoy Powerplay and understand how things work.
Thanks for the advice.
But how do I choose the right power to join?
Well, it's up to you. I only know the internals of the federal powers so that's what I can recommend. We have a great community and some people that is pretty knowledgeable about how Powerplay works. You're welcome to join Felicia Winters or Zachary Hudson if you'd like.
You can find a link to our discord in /r/EliteWinters/ , in the right sidebar. Give it a try, no compromise![]()
