Power Play NPC Ship colors?

I noticed NPC ships from the super powers all seem to be brightly colored according to their faction's power? Like - Feds are all cherry red ships, Imps are obnoxious blue, etc?
Is that something that was done with Power Play 2.0?

If that's the case . . . they REALLY gotta tone down the ship coloration, it looks AWFUL.
I mean, cool idea to stylize NPC ships according to their faction but it feels like I'm watching a toddler's show that's trying to teach me colors. -
"This ship is . . . A FEDERAL SHIP . . . Can you say? Federation? Very good! Federation ships are . . . RED! Very good!"

The saturation and hues are cranked absurdly high.
Like, whoever at FDev was working on that does not have a grasp on color theory.
I honestly thought it was a video card issue on my end, or a shaders or currupt files issue and I even validated files.

Yeah it looks cartoony.

Well obviously real politicians would never do anything like that...

😅 For real!
But that's what I would expect Jerome Archer and Aisling Duval to be riding in privately.
Your average system security and patrol NPC would be the average supporter driving behind that bus, in their normal colored Prius or something.
Either way, they're ALL rocking that "eye catching" color scheme and it's a little heavy on the eyes.

Like Cosmo has been saying,
it's not about the ships having markings, or having coloration, or distinction, or why they should have it . . .
It's just so damn obnoxiously saturated.
Like, just chill out with the saturation and cranked up hue guys.
We Commanders are already flying around in cartoonish paintjobs like that one guy in your neighborhood with the neon-pink mustang (we all know that guy)
It's a bit silly to see every police car on the block rocking that neon-pink mustang now too.

They're hittin us with that #ff0000
when they should've gone with a #af1010

Personally I think that Air Force One looks like it fell out of a cartoon, but there you go.

In the real world we have things like Northern Ireland where some areas will have pavements painted in green white and orange and others will be painted red white and blue (No, I'm not making any further comment on that topic).

Or my particular favourite example of trying to assert dominance in a ceremonial manner- the Attari- Wagah border closing ceremony.

This is just what we're like.

Yeah, I do see your point, but it's just a matter of making it recognizable. If something's 5km away, you need to be able to tell at a glance who it is. Not like you can see their decals or whatever at that distance. I don't really see a good compromise here; if it's less striking, it'll always be harder to see. I suppose you could have some sort of color shift as it gets closer or something.

I thought that the powerplay ships use the vibrant colors taken from us, but they are more colored, it just looks bad. Secondly, Fdev didn't try hard when it comes to painting the powerplay ships, zero creativity. Thirdly, I don't know what's up with the colors of these ships, but these colors don't stick to the powerplay houses at all, I've seen them in different configurations.

Yeah it looks cheap, zero creativity. The bright colors makes them easier targets.

Navy ships aren't brightly colored either. They are recognizable by the hull number, flags and can be detected with visual software. No bright paintjobs are necessary.

I like the bright colours. Stealth isn't a thing in ED space combat - we all have night vision and 360 radar - so there's no pressing need for ships to be in drab colours.

With stealth out of the picture, bright colours make the most sense. You don't want friendlies opening fire on you in a brawl, so it actually hurts less to stand out. This has been the case before in military history, before the invention of smokeless gunpowder armies wore brightly coloured uniforms to aid identification, which was important for both friend and foe.

As @Lateralus mentioned, I think the only issue is that independent Powers all have orange ships. Honestly I'm surprised that they didn't use the same colours as the ones on the galaxy map, there's a distinctive colour scheme for each Power right there.

The ED ships don't need Disney cartoony bright colors though. They can tone it down. It doesn't fit ED's art direction imo. Symbols of the Powers would improve identification too. Which historical army had Disney colored uniforms?

I detest the Power Rangers style Strike Combatant Pack cosmetic too.

I find these changes quite refreshing as opposed to years of bland NPC paintjobs, ATR, Search and Rescue vessels etc. being the only exceptions. The topic of NPC ship paintjobs rarely ever gets brought up, so I am glad it received at least some attention despite the simple solution.

I haven´t laid eyes on them yet, but it appears that Independents´ and Alliance waste management and rubbish truck paintjobs are finally finding their intended pilots.

How long a list do you want?

It isn't just historical ones I believe there is some army/unit that has purple camo pattern uniforms.

I detest the Power Rangers style Strike Combatant Pack cosmetic too.
