Power play release date

I read the PDF describing the rules of PowerPlay, and thought it sounded like a really well thought-out, balanced, interesting system for modelling conflicting major powers in the galaxy.

But as I came to the end, I couldn't help but think... this would be so much better if it applied to player alliance owned factions. The fact that this is all just AI factions makes the whole thing seem completely dry and rather unappealing to slog hours and hours of work into, just for a few faction specific rewards. Players competing against players is what makes online games fun - but then I realise it probably has to be this way because of Solo mode.

Of course doing this sort of things with player factions, whilst great, wouldn't come without its own problems - namely what if one faction just totally dominated, and ran away with the whole thing. There would need to be periodic resets etc.

It's the nucleus of something really good I feel, but it's difficult to get excited about helping AI controlled factions further their virtual agendas.

You are correct..but player factions will be the same as they always have been, UNTIL they become a Power. What player groups have to understand is this: Once their group creates the Power, they cede control of it's story and direction over to the game. They will still have a say in the story, but the story will have to live within the confines of the communities decision. To put this differently, one part of this game is to create a player group, that is dedicated to the creation and injection of their own story into the galaxy, and inviting the community to help build and mold it, to the point that, ultimately, the group provides a new Power to the community to play. Welcome to the sandbox.

They still have a lot of bugs being reported and heated discussions about the gameplay mechanics. I know tomorrow marks 1 week but I personally think they'd be better off holding off for up to an additional week to iron out the issues and potentially tweak some of the systems as a result of player feedback.

Nobody wants a repeat of the 1.1 release which came out with major reported issues unresolved due to rushing to meet a 1 week deadline.

Ack, hadn't time to play much this weekend, gotta get a final refit to the Asp, and grab a size 6 shield before the 10% penalty kicks in!

Well, I hope FDev make the right call either way. I would completely understand if they decided to delay it to make some changes to the 1.3 build, but I'd also understand if they decided to release it now and tweak later, so that everyone can access all the cool improvements and they can get far more broad feedback.

I do hope it's soon. I've never murdered anyone in a Diamondback, and I'd quite like to.

I'd like an official announcement too, but if they're playing a "when it's ready" strategy I'll be 100% happy. The balancing/technical issues around a lot of the new stuff might take several beta iteration to get right, and I for one do NOT want to see things rebalanced too much in the main game. Getting it right in beta is what it's there for, and that includes ship pricing. *cough* What we need is for the beta process to complete, rather than a stage "main" release with lots of mods as we had in 1.3. Maybe there isn't enough feedback from beta users to do this properly though?

Considering Beta 5 only had a handful (by comparison to previous builds) of changes. I'm guessing they are almost ready to go.
I expect to see the release this week

id be a happy commander if we see it this week, even if it is buggy, let the entire game base test it and report problems.

personally cant seem to shake off my hostile rep with feds,so currently ranking up in empire space instead.so hoping once powerplay hits full release when i join a empire representive, eberyone other faction will become enemies anyway?

anyway been playing since 16th of december, fully cockpitted up lol...hotas....power grids....headtracking.....voice attack.....tablets with the tade tools and shipyard stuff..
i have never had a game in 30 years of playing that has immersed me so much and made me do silly things......even have a homebrew vr headset lol.

own a Annie,python,Cobra,T9.....and over 500 bill in wealth.......

and after hitting the supposed end game scenario i love it even more.....i actually have gone back to the basics....just flying my cobra around and trading and doing bountys in Res sites.

now bring on powerplay

They released PP beta 6 yesterday afternoon, which makes me think it'll either be tomorrow if that's just a tidy-up beta, or early next week if they need to go to beta 7 first. I'd much rather see this kind of release, rather than the juggling act post 1.2 release. Certainly if we're within 6 months of an Xbox release, and the Steam community is starting to thrive separately to the Kickstarter/early backer community, then FD need to be doing release updates MUCH less regularly, especially for balancing issues, and spending more time in beta to ensure that the major number updates are "complete" as much as that's possible with any software package.

Considering the general opinion on the PP beta, they really shouldnt release it until its been redone a dair bit.
The fact that FD has been silent on the subject might indicate that they are indeed planning to delay it with intent to redesign PP.

Im only speculating but it really does feel like this beta/update has turned into a "make or break" deal.

You think beta testing will make those changes that people want? For the most part beta testing is just dithering about.

I don't think so, only it going live and 'real-world' uproar is going to make that happen. So I say release it now, and then substantial changes are far more liekly to be forthcoming.

Just as an FYI there has been 6 updates no less since the original BETA, so yes I'd say the beta testing is valid and makes the changes that people want. The Devs even posted about the response on the forum to the 10% module sell penalty and said they are considering what to do with it.

Also on topic: im not holding out for a release this week. If I was optimistic i'd say Monday, realistic I'd say Wednesday.

It was mentioned that the new GalNet-mechanic will be introduced (and tested) before launch. As we didn't see anything alike at the current state, I don't expect 1.3 going live soon.

There are still many (even PP-gameplay-breaking) bugs in the code and FD is obviously working hard on ironing them out.
I don't know whether there are not enough working hours for bug-busting and the implementation of the new feature simultaneously or they simply want to have a solid basis before they add another layer.
Anyway, I appreciate the effort to deliver an as-bug-free-as-possible launch and are more than willing to wait for this - even another week (or unlikely two), if necessary.

Wings was accepted pretty much immediately as having nailed it. Not at all close to that for powerplay.

indeed, there are a number of issues we beta testers are working through, we're up to beta 6 and I would not be surprised if there is at least a beta 7 and maybe 8 depending on if they can nail down some of the key powerplay problems that are occuring as well as some non power related issues they have been working dilligently on but still need to address some recurring issues (drones still stealing each others cargo and prematurely retiring for example)
