Powerplay 2.0 : what we know from partners' streams

The numbers got silly fast! But you can find Fireytoads vods on his twitch page. He did the cashing in on yesterday's stream and continued on today's stream. Not sure how easy it's going to be able to figure out the merit/exploration credit... Here's Fireytoad's twitch page:

Thanks! Guess this is a bit messy, but it's good enough for a first estimate. Once better data is in, it should be easy to do a proper regression, but at first glance, it sure seems linear to me. Seems to go at a decent pace too, although I wonder how it'll compare to other activities.

Funnily enough, zero to rank 100 would be quite close to the original Elite exploration rank - well, for LYR at least. Of course, that's far above Elite V, which people rarely do anyway - so it's not like people will be zooming their PP ranks through exploration left and right.

I'm bookmarking this Thargoid related find here, on the off chance that any streamers stumble upon this symbol discovered by a commander on the underbelly of a Titan. Note the eye-like structure to the right.

So far, FD has kept the Thargoid and PP storylines completely separate, but after the recent Jameson CG I have sincere doubts about how long that artificial separation is going to last.

Look at what Archon can do in this contested system! :D
Interesting - that implies that once two sides get to the "contesting" threshold, no-one else can enter the race for themselves, just attempt to slow one or both sides down. Not that - at least to start with - there'll be that many places where three or four sides could reach to contest the same system.

The centre bit of that symbol (the blob rather than the eight-way swirls) has been on Thargoid assets for a long time - I think the barnacles were the first to have it?

Just to note that those Thargoid tattoo/decal symbols aren't new (apologies if that's not what you're highlighting), they've been there forever.
They can also be found on things like the active spire landing platforms.

Looking at the video, FD have essentially made CZs PvP zones in Open and that you can still gain merits for messing with others.

It also has the possibility where other powers can 'help' another- for example a third party Imperial power disrupting a Fed rival while contesting with another Imperial.

This is very much how FD described fights in FU-4 IIRC.

Thanks to everybody that contributed in this thread, plenty of useful informations!
I believe that Thargoids will become something like a NPC Power, maybe not immediately, but in time, even if they wil probably have their very own set of rules.

Speaking about merits gathering: I think we can already see a big issue in balancement that FDev didn't consider: the bounty turret boats. They really risk to break the game and something needs to be done to counter them in general (because let's say it straight: it's bad, it shouldn't happen, it breaks the game) but even more now that we have a brand new mechanic which FDev invested a lot into which could be completely broken by them.

Only thing I can imagine to counter those is to put in some very strong Powerplay NPCs that attack you after some minutes you stay in normal cruise.

I actually didn't know that the barnacles had the symbols until I recently stumbled upon this 2017 thread on Thargoid ship logograms:

Sadly, the last entry was in June 2023 - it was a great thread.

Thanks Alec, you're right - I found the same Titan symbol in the 2017 thread mentioned above.

Most of the power activities seem to be limited by their nature or availability of resource. I wonder if activities such as collecting bounties and scanning ships have a hand-in cap per system. Or diminishing returns similar to the BGS.

Good point, may be they could have also diminishing merits return... but doesn't seem so (merits remain linear).

AFK Turretboats are an aberration, IMHO (and not only for their potential exploitment in the new PP 2.0).

I will be dedicating one of my alts to pp2.0. Not sure which power yet. I previously was a module shopper and then a filthy casual for Mommy Duvals extra bond bonus.

I just cashed in 220 mil for attack runs on Raijin, and got 330 mil or so. I will need to find a replacement for that wonderful perk. I know Mommy Duval has the bond bonus, but getting to the rank in pp2.0 will not be as quick and painless as 100 merits for rank 2 in the old pp1.0 system.

I guess we will all find out next week. I think I have heard of some posts on X/Twitter from Fdev (arf) and a date being finalized for pp2.0, not sure if it is in the forums yet officially

Sell Mined Resources - Sell mined commodities in systems that your power can Acquire. These goods must have been mined and not purchased from a market.

Im interested in how this works - worst case scenario mined goods have to stay on the ship. Best case scenario can build up stores on carriers and sell. This needs clarifying for those who want to prepare.

Beyond the Bubble mining expedition time?

Heads up - this doesn't sound good.

“My memories rushed past me in a blur. I couldn’t stop it. It felt like everything I’ve ever known, learned or whatever... Just spinning and spinning around. Even in a coma, I could feel it. The Thargoids had finally noticed my presence and tried to learn what they could about me – which also means everything I know about humans. They scraped it out of my mind. I’m sorry that I couldn’t stop it. I’m sorry.”

This was so glaringly obvious from moment one that I can only think either it's already dealt with by some as-yet unknown mechanism, or if not then I just don't know what to say about someone releasing that in the feature.

Counterpoint- At what point in elite's history has combat ever been more time or credit-effective than trade... Its a bold assumption to assume even afk combat will be viable XD...

Considering what we have seen so far, anything that can be banked (exploration data), may be extremely powerful, as systems will be able to be prepped in a matter of minutes...
