PowerPlay 2.0: Who are you pledging to?

Hi all! Like many of you I'm excited to get into the new PowerPlay 2.0 mechanics. First hurdle, especially as someone who didn't use PP1 much, is who to pledge to? I'm currently leaning towards Yuri Grom, as the bonuses are quite broad which suits my playstyle of doing lots of bounty hunting, but exploring and trading a bit too.

Who are you guys going with and why? Are you role playing, or doing it purely objectively? I know there's no right or wrong answer, but I'm interested to see how people make this decision to help me make my own.

I got into the game intruiged by the power play. Now, it didn't take long for it to become dull (under pp1) but after looking over all of the pp leaders I went with the now Emperor Lavigny Duval. She wasn't emperor at the time, of course.
So, that's what I've gone with again.

I'm actually conflicted about who I want to join. For years I was pledged to Arissa. I only strayed from her occasionally to rank up with others to get certain modules (e.g. Prismatic Shields, Packhounds, etc.). I have a lot of systems in her bubble of influence where I'm maxed with all (or almost all) the local factions and thus get lucrative missions.

Now I'm tempted to pledge to Li Yong-Rui. I don't care for how he does business, nor Sirius corporation, but I've often taken advantage of his systems 15% discount for anyone. Now his 100% exploration bonus isn't something you need to maintain max rank to get. Further, at some point (I know the benefits are scaled as you rank), he offers free rearm, refuel, and repairs in his bubble. That is a tempting package.

If Pranav Antal's exobiology bonus had remained higher than what it is now, I would've been tempted to go to with him. I'm not arguing that the bonus shouldn't have been reduced to what it is now. I'm only stating that if it had remained the full 100%, his package would've been very attractive.

It's good to see there are more options now and full equivalency. Jerome Archer better mirrors Arissa's bonuses for those that want to align with a Federation power instead of the Empire.

Anyway, my concern is aligning with Li Yong-Rui and then getting harassed whenever I'm in Arissa's (and some others) space. Also, is there any deference now amongst the powers that belong to the same super power? Before you didn't have much to worry about from the other Imperial or Federation powers if you were aligned with one of their members. It looks like now it is a complete free-for-all. Is that correct?

Ugh. I'm stuck in a decision loop on this... and how to modify my Mandalay without edsy letting me test things... and it's driving me crazy.

I'm currently based in LYR space as I also take quite liberal advantage of the 15% discount. It's also nicely positioned between two of the larger Federation and Imperial PMFs. While the bonuses from him would've been great for me personally, it wouldn't have been as tempting for my regular wingmates. They were looking at the 100% bounty bonuses of Arissa and Jerome too, but I felt that was a little too hyper-focused for me personally. I think we've collectively agreed that Yuri is the best compromise now, but it is a genuinely hard decision to make, especially if you want to take into account a group. I guess that just shows how well put together the various powers are. Good job Fdev!

I have not decided yet. And I also need to decide on my main account or alt... choices, choices. But I was previously only a pp1.0 filthy casual for the modules (I have all the pp1.0 modules in storage). Then I pledged to Mommy Duval for the combat bonds bonus. 100 merits got me an extra 20%-50% on my bonds if Mommy Duval was in position 1, 2, or 3... I will miss that perk.

So Yuri does look like the best for a mix of activities. I only 'need' the Concord Cannons, if they turn out useful.

Not really sure. I wonder if after ten years of serving Arissa Lavigny Duval in one of the greatest and most fun player groups something else than the Empire gives me same pleasure. Na, don't think so. Empire, Arissa Lavigny-Duval and Lavigny's Legion forever. Sign here

Pick the power based on the Ethos, not on the bonuses.

What @Rebel Yell said is true. You're more likely to end up playing with like-minded commanders if you follow the ethos. Otherwise, there's a real risk of ending up grouped with people you can't stand 😁
I understand what you're saying. That's why I'm not even considering Archon Delaine, Yuri Grom, or Jerome Archer. Further, Pranav Antal's stance/ethos has always irritated me, so only a huge exobiology perk would've made me go with him.

Beyond that... I tend to play solo, so other player's attitudes don't matter to me that much.

And for the Arissa fans, don't worry... even if I pledge elsewhere, I won't be running ops against any of her systems. I still like her too much.

Just to be clear, Arissa used to offer a 10% bonus for bounties in her systems for anyone. Then there was the additional 20%-50% if she was in top 3 ranks. Now, if pledged with her, you'll always get 100% bonus (at some point, not sure what rank you'll need to reach). So if bounties are your thing, she only got better (as did her new counterpart Jerome Archer).

Have the ethos' changed at all from PP1.0? I've just moved house so am doing all this planning, but without direct access to the game at the moment. My mates want to get on tonight but don't want to go down the wrong path without me, so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible.

The old ones are pretty much the same (i.e. we are the "bad guys") but there's a new one (Nakato Kaine) and the new Federation Jerome Archer.

Some of the beneffits offered by the powers, in case it helps you all to choose:

Pick the power based on the Ethos, not on the bonuses.
The Ethos (which is totally in game politics), does not matter to how I play. Up till now I picked the powers for the modules in pp1 or the perk due to activities like doing winged mining, or massacre missions, or Goid spire sites, or Titan bombing runs. I never pledged to a power for that powers sake, it was for what does that power offer me and my gameplay. So for me, the perks/bonuses are all that matters

Following the ethos may work for some, but not for others

That means you're not a powerplayer, which is fine as well. 🤷‍♂️

And once you hit rank 100, you can stop doing any powerplay stuff.

Well I ended up going with Li Yong-Rui. I like the long term goal (100% exploration bonus, free repairs/refuel/rearm) benefits. Also, I haven't done much in a lot of his systems, so new area to play in.

It looks like with the new one there is a lot you can do defensively - as in, build up your own systems - without having to undermine others. So that's nice.

I have to admit... a part of me is intrigued by Archon Delaine's final level rewards. All bounties acquired in his territory reduced by 100%?! I guess that means you can pillage the non-anarchy factions in his territory as it suits you (other than notoriety going up). I wonder if that might even lead to weird states where you have notoriety but aren't "wanted" because the bounty is zero.

Anyway, the whole new system looks cool. I'm having fun doing the weekly objectives. One was completed just by randomly scanning ships in Li's territory.
