I think this is really reflective of the disconnect between PowerPlay and FDev's planned stories, and a reason for a reboot of Powerplay with player-made factions instead of big political names from around the galaxy.
In terms of official story and CG there biggest recent events were a one-system war determining Federal or Imperial governance. Minor bickering is taking place regarding the disappearance (and subsequent reappearance) of former President Halsey. The Alliance is almost entirely absent in official news. Independents are almost always absent; I don't know if Pranav Antal has ever been officially mentioned anywhere. A random new piece declared that Archon Delaine's power is at risk of collapse.
Meanwhile in Powerplay, ever since the great snipe of '44 the biggest fight has been between the Federation and the Empire. The Empire and Federation continue to fight as well. Alliance/Empire relations are improved by a common enemy but mild tension occurs as some Imperial opportunists seize the chance to expand into lost Alliance ground (e.g. Contien area). Pranav Antal seized control of one of humanity's most distant settlements in Maia. Archon Delaine remains low on the official standings, but is in reality a hardened target and a perpetual enemy to nearby Imperial powers. LYR struggles looking for new places to expand to. Thousands of ships from every power are shot down, costing the lives of many Alliance Enforcers, Federal Agents, and Assorted Imperials every week; never to be heard about again.
