Powerplay : Commit Crimes in Undermining Systems

I've literally never set out to commit crimes in my entire 10 year elite dangerous journey, and here i am, commiting crimes... and it's just not working.
[...]
Another side to this issue is that i could just go kill 10 pirates and get the same merits.... And get paid several million credits, as opposed to having millions worth of bounties to pay off and hours of notoriety to deal with.
Congratulations, you've figured out the proverb "Crime doesn't pay". Next up: "Curiosity killed the cat."

Yeah, right, because i'm going to join a power that demands we commit crime in a game where the crime system is fully broken....?

I got killed exploring a settlement today. (not the first time tbh) Last time i regular-scanned a guy and got shot in the face immediately because they had a bounty. This time i found out that downloading purple data will send every stormtrooper on the planet to kill me. I got straight up murdered for not realizing what buttons do again. (illegal =! summon every stormtrooper to my exact location so they can murder me for pushing a button)

"They" (whoever runs this ridiculous legal system?) impounded my ship and demanded a million credits just so i could leave. But i still have a 400k bounty. What's that about? Why does my ship still have legal issues if i'm here paying a million credits just to leave the detention center after being murdered? and where is this impound cost coming from? the rebuy of the ship is 550k. the bounty is uhh somewhere around 400k (but keeps changing every time i log in). The status page said i had a 750k bounty, but that makes no sense at all as the objective said my bounty never exceeded 95k.

I obviously didn't pay off the bounty, as part of the impound, or it wouldn't still exist. Seems like a totally arbitrary number got generated.

Edit:

And apparently my fully engineered anaconda is also impounded, on my carrier, for 30m credits, so now i cannot participate in PCZ's until i ante up more than 320x the bounty... then wait two hours doing literally nothing, then actually get to pay the bounty off? This is not fun at all.

I kind of love the Kafkaesque nightmare that is the Elite legal system. Mass murder? No problem. Parking violation? Instant death. Transporting occupied escape pods and selling them to whoever? No problem (Etienne Dorn's Unspecified Meat Supplies, looking at you). Downloading purple data? Instant death.

Also, we'll have your ship and transport you somewhere unpleasant.

I genuinely feel it's part of the "flavour" of the game at this point.

Yeah, my main is usually a Lawful Good character. That’s just not possible in ED 😂

Had to google it :)
Kafkaesque : of, relating to, or suggestive of Franz Kafka or his writings
especially : having a nightmarishly complex, bizarre, or illogical quality

Neat thanks :)

So after going through the notes i'm convinced parts of this scenario don't line up with statements made in the pilots handbook.

1) My anaconda was impounded at my carrier. this is in conflict with "all hot ships will be impounded at the same location". Surely this has been changed reasonably, but the handbook is clearly out of date.

2) My bounties still existed after i left, and i still had notoriety. "detainees will be forced to pay off all outstanding fines and bounties in that jurisdiction"

The jurisdiction was alliance territory, both where i was killed, and where I did my murdering. All bounties should have been paid off before i could have exited the detention center.
