Powerplay kills the fun!

Notice the developers didn't slow down the reaction speed, they just knocked it out. And as you know, putting a rocket into a crack also requires a reaction and this was not removed.
The difference is getting a bomb into a crack to blow a rock apart makes sense in terms of what is going on and so unlike the meaningless match the circles game in exobiology was appropriate.
But this is not the point, the wave scanner should be guaranteed to indicate the presence of the core and if it does not do it is wrong. When mining cores there are so many other factors - complicating mining - to still tolerate the scanner not working correctly.
Imagine you scanned a ship, you were shown that it was a pirate, opened fire and immediately got a penalty, the scanner was wrong :(
Except getting it wrong with a PWS is merely annoying.

And you realize that the brightness of the asteroid after lighting depends on a bunch of factors, maybe the person is playing in a bad resolution, his monitor is dim, etc.
Some people have their graphics set to ultra and some people have their graphics set to low.
Even in SRV the scanner works more correctly !
Yes and all that being true is why I suggest that people don’t use the guides for core mining as anything other than an outline for what to look for and when they find a core on their system back away and make screenshots and take videos of what they see on their system with their settings.

^^^^This

I am happy that the pulse wave scanner does not put a huge sign on top of core asteroids. That is one of the things, for me, which makes it a challenging and enjoyable gameplay loop

I'm sorry, none of your arguments are convincing. You still need to get into the crack, why adjust the strength of the explosion? I like this mini game, but I don't understand why it was removed when collecting samples.

But in any case, the wave scanner is broken.

Because it was just a reaction test. Exploration is a slower paced, even with the SCO, laid back sort of gameplay. A reaction test was particularly jarring in reference to the pace of the rest of the exploration game loop. - Not to mention how variable the frame rate was when it was introduced.

It was just frustrating and in no way engaging. Several of us suggested an alternative, lock pick sort of mini-game, but FDev just chose to remove it all together.
I'd say the performance was what killed it and which made FDev remove it, as opposed to the concept of the mini-game itself. Although I agree it didn't really gel with the nature of the activity. I'd still prefer they hadn't removed it completely, or even better replaced it with something else, rather than just axing it like that.

Same goes for the #weeks without accidents sign near the elevators in the docking bay. They had the right idea by adding it (tongue in cheek world building) but then lazied out by making it a static number, instead of making it a consistent variable per space port. Complaints/suggestions to improve it resulted in them just replacing it with a default 'gibberish content' display.

Yeah. I've been meaning to play with my gamma settings to see how much difference it makes during core mining, because I've found rocky rings much harder than icy rings in terms of differentiating the wheat from the chaff and am hoping that a few small tweaks might help.
However, this may now not happen for... a while; I think I've once again run out of enthusiasm for actually playing the game, so this'll have to remain on my to-do list until some time in 2026 ;)

Never really played with my settings but found that using Night Vision really made the lines in the glow of core rocks prominent.
The other thing that made them show up well if weirdly was if I was in the fog produced by detonating a core, if there was another core in range it was about the only thing that showed up if I triggered the PWS but they looked very different. Unfortunately not a generally useful thing as you needed the fog cloud.

That's not what the wave scanner does. It highlights any asteroid with any special features, including surface deposits, subsurface deposits or a core. I'm glad it doesn't really pick out cores as this would make mining trivial.
