Powerplay: Overhead Tweak [UPDATED, PLEASE READ]

What is a "success"?

One "Success" equals 13.8 "Merits". If a Power owes you a "Favour" and you have at least 46,000 "Merits", you can convert "Merits" into "Success", trade it for "Favour" at an exchange rate of 0.3333333333333 and fast-track your "Command Capital" bonus multiplier, up to the "Power Ethos Upper Bound" for your nearest "Command System".




A moment's thought will reveal that "Expansion" follows "Success" using the following equation...

But, of course, we all knew that.
 
1) I'd happily spend a bit of my weekly time defending against undermining... oh wait, I can't because I can't see the Cmdrs in solo sneaking in.

Surely this is a fundamental flaw and the mooted changes will just encourage more soloism than community re PP?

2) "Merits for everyone!" "Favour too!" "Here, have a few buckets of favour everyone!" "Do whatever you like in whatever system you like and have some favour folks."

I can't wait for this new element to arrive...

Any chance that Cmdrs who are actually harming their Power (undoubtably through lack of knowledge due to the immense complexities of PP rather than covert acts of treason) receiving negative favour due to their harmful actions against the greater good?

Maybe a tactical PP based mid-week comms tab message could help... "Evening Cmdr, we need to talk. Fortificatation supplies urgently required at Baal. Gende is now drowning in Preparation leaflets. Deliver 200 tons of fortification goods to Baal for a +100 favour boost. Continue dumping Prep leaflets at Gende for -100 favour penalty."

This is by far the best idea I have heard in a long time! Let's hope FD reads it!
 
Regarding the update: Awesome! I am looking forward to how it will change things.

However, one question:
Why did you stick to equal "payouts" (merits) for different ship-sizes in combat zones? (And why did you decide to go this way at the first place?)

I can see the reason in the current balance - as you wanted to gather merits in expansion combat be slower, 1 point/kill wasn't easy to scale. But with the upcomming balance and 10 merits/kill, a better scaling is possible. Why not granting 4 merits for small ships (Eagles and alike), 8 merits for middle sized ships (Viper, Cobra,...), 10 for Vultures and Phytons and finally 12 for Anacondas? (Or any other scaling, if desired? But with a scaling nevertheless!)

Yeah, scaling would make more sense. 10 is quite a large amount for swatting an Eagle, pretty good for taking down a Cobra, kind of okay for taking out a Vulture and not so great for bringing down an Anaconda.

Still, this definitely fixes the problem where if your loadout included cannons you could easily spend more on ammo than the payout would give you back. And being able to get to rank 2 with just 10 kills will be nice. It even makes aspiring for some of the higher ranks almost start to sound reasonable.

We’re going to hold off increasing the base fortify success threshold for now, to see how these undermining incentives changes affect play. If we feel that these changes don’t give us enough change, we’ll come back to this value.

That's an improvement on the original suggestion - increasing the fortification requirement just seems like a kick in the teeth for the smaller powers.

What I can't understand is why there's no merit reward for defending against undermining? If players from another power are undermining a system, why don't commanders get merits for destroying them and preventing undermining? It seems like that would be a nice incentive for people protecting their home territory.

Also, still no chance that we get to see that new overhead formula?
 
Good news on increasing the merits awarded for interdicting enemy agents. That will help make this much more viable.

Any progress on developing the mobile app for Powerplay material allocation loading?

All my merits have withered away by now.
I think I have less than a hundred left.

I am currently making millions of credits in High Intensity Combat zones.
It is great fun doing combat against heavily armed npc.
And I am getting closer to becoming Elite.

There still is no money to be had in PP Warzones if I am correct?
 
These seem better. I like that fortifying hasn't become more difficult so we don't need to spend even more time doing that.
 
Any reasons why not getting 1 merit for a small kill (e.g.: Eagle), 5 for a medium (e.g.: Asp), 10 for a big (e.g.: Python) at a Power Play Combat zone?
Or even better, 5 merits for a small kill, 10 for a medium, 15 for a big?

You cant see the Cmdrs in SOLO sneaking in, no, but you could indeed see the ones coming in OPEN. Or do you think you are the only one that plays Undermining in OPEN?

Everyone thinks they're the only side that undermines in Open. That's why there are so many videos of fantastic PvP in Power Play systems.

It's good to hear about the holding off on fortification trigger raise.

I expect undermining across the galaxy to double, if not quadruple.

Hello Commanders!

Hopefully tomorrow, you should see that success and merits from undermining have changed. The new values will be:

* 30 merits and successes for assassinating appropriate ships found in super cruise
* 5 merits and successes per appropriate cargo pirated and handed in to support undermining

We’re also increases success and merits for each kill in Powerplay conflict zones. Each kill will award 10 merits and successes.

We’re going to hold off increasing the base fortify success threshold for now, to see how these undermining incentives changes affect play. If we feel that these changes don’t give us enough change, we’ll come back to this value.

Well, that's a start to giving yourselves time to avert total disaster and an exodus of Cmdrs not keen on pew pew, but on board for support activities like fortification.

Believe me, I would say that I am close to a large number of fortifiers for Winters, and the change you are holding off on would end up pushing an awful lot of people out. The final erg of fun would be removed by raising those thresholds.

Not everyone wants to pew pew.
