PP2.0 Trade Merits is broken, and gives vastly more if you trade one ton at a time.

In V886 Centauri. I tried at the Rescue megaship Cornwallis and at Tanner City station. Tried selling one at each station and didn't receive any merits
Strange, its not something ive come across on commodities, had a few distance issues with Power Commodities but not general trade.

So ideally it's 32 rares per transaction which when your selling 3000 or so across 5/6 loads, would make a difference in terms of merits output?

Ridiculously crap gameplay

Yeah im just shuttling back n forth in leesti atm once I got a fair load (3k or so) I'll go dump it at wherever the price is right and of course within my powers area.

Also just tried Bertrandite at Tanner City and also got no merits
Bertrandite sold at 21285 (from Inara, actual price might differ slightly) would need to be purchased at 15203 or less to qualify under the "40% profit" rule.
It's not impossible to buy Bertrandite that cheaply - though usually only in small quantities - at Odyssey settlements or if the seller has Infrastructure Failure... but its usual bulk prices are higher than that. Did you get it cheaply enough?

CMM Composite at 6521 would need to be purchased at 4657 or less to qualify. I'm not sure I've ever seen anywhere sell CMM that cheaply though there's probably a few somewhere - still, unless you found one, again, no merits for you.
(The trick with CMM Composite is to find a buyer in Infrastructure Failure, where the sale price will go close to 20000 credits. But Infrastructure Failure isn't predictable, so this is more an opportunistic option)

So you only get merits if the sale price is more than 40% of the original commodity price? Maybe that's where I was going wrong then

Wish they'd fix this VR bug whereby we can't ascertain distance from a stronghold/Fortified system (the round sphere indicating range) without the game crashing!
If you (VR cmdrs) haven't done so please post a bug report

Here is some data I collected regarding this merit trading problem. I added the time which I don't see anywhere ( quick search )by the way. of course there could be errors but ya, here it is:

I went from Carter City | Marowalan to Kuhn Port | LHS 1067
bought Bertrandite for 1,706 Cr and sold it at 21,367 Cr | +19,661 Cr (1,152%)

that said, I just calculated the time it would take me to sell my entire cargo per shots of 5 and 10 units.
I had around 200 units left and did the calculations
if I sell per shots of 5 units until I got nothing left, it would take me 21.7 minutes to sell 700t. around 10k merits
if I sell per shots of 10 units until I got nothing left, it would take me 12.3 minutes to sell 700t. around 7800 merits
if I sell per shots of 15 units until I got nothing left, it would take me 7.5 minutes to sell 700t. around 6256 merits

per hour these numbers should be :
per 5 units = 27k
per 10 units = 38k
per 15 units = 50k

seems like its more profitable if you sell per batch of 15 and do more runs...make sense to me when I look at those numbers. feel free to correct me but those numbers seems logical even though they aren't solid of course.

P.S: I didnt calculate the time for the travel between point A to point B and going back to point A.

Makes a lot of sense to me too, thank you for providing us those very solid numbers. Looks like the 1 ton/per trade people are torturing themselves for nothing

The travel time is the problem. It takes about 6 minutes for that part so you just about halve the speed.

If Frontier don't want to change anything about the tax, bulk, trade and all that stuff to fix , theres a solution I could think of that would require a minimal effort of coding.

the screen where you choose how much you want to sell, well heres what they could do then:

  • add a buy/sell and cancel or done button at the bottom
  • start at 0 to sell so that way you click on the right arrow to increase your units
  • add 1, 5, 10, and 15 units to add to what you want to sell.
  • once you click on 15 for example and click on sell you just sell, the screen or popup doesn't disappear. this way you could easily spam that sell button and sell over 700t in mere seconds...

this would require minimal coding effort compared to change how the entire trading system work. in other words, its just an interface ugrade
