Praise be salvation!
the guardian plasma charger is now engineered!
And with the x17 damage multiplier at max charge it will dish out 45.9 damage per shot! FOR THE SMOL!

I am super happy, was just today diagnosed with the very popular virus so this cheered me up oUo

These new module unlocks are usually preceded by an in game event. Considering their appearance so shortly after patch 8 I think this was an unintentional early release/reveal. I warn caution before purchasing multiples of these. It's possible it may get rolled back and your modules removed.

Zac in AXI Discord: “You guys went to the megaship and didn't all notice the plasma chargers???”

So yeah, totally unintentional.

Yes! It is true. Salvation has indeed blessed us with a guardian plasma charger.
But he is also giving us them at a discount too!
Everyone!
Praise salvation!
Break the thargoids and pass the holy blueprints!
Praise! For as is his name. So shall he bring. Salvation!

Excuse my Hud colors. Blue is bad, Red is great.
The same bonus than size 1. Im going to compare with the ShardsC2 that I had in my instagib ship.

There are turreted shards/plasma chargers, from memory they're fixed unless you have a Gunner, which I like to do. Multicrew AX is a ton of fun (even if not functionally viable), but I guess twas not to be.

Turreted shards work without a gunner, but only at 500 meters. But yeah, hail Salvation! The shot speed is ridiculous, but I'm not complaining too hard about that. If it only also increased damage falloff start distance and there was a Large variant, I'd be ecstatic instead of merely happy.

Here modified C2 PC compared to unmodified C3 PC:

Isn't the increase in thermal load a big disappointment? Usually the strategy in AX combat is to remain cold as much as possible, isn't it?
In-practice, has anyone noted how much more frequently they must now cool?

(trying to learn, not complain)

EDIT:
I must also ask: Is this really a new era in AX combat, compared to other weapons/tech options that are in use, or is it just a buff for the plasma charger that was only so-so, in effect adding a (now) comparably-useful energy weapon to the mix?

Heatwise, I think it compares favorably to the usual Gauss as long as you use mostly charged shots. If you spam uncharged ones, you'll heat up pretty fierce. It has always been keeping your ship cold while firing very hot weapons.

We took our wing out to mix out with randos in AXCZ, as is our habit, but this time with new toys. The PC performs pretty nicely. Gauss is still more powerful, but PC has more ammo when you again use predominantly charged shots. Hydra is hard work if you don't have enough gauss power, but everything else felt manageable. That is my initial assessment at least. Tried out those shard cannons too. I liked them as well.

Edit: Another AXCZ session. My AX FAS now has 3 chargers and I love the loadout. Turns out it is possible to stay ahead of Hydra's regeneration and exert, but it requires being in the very dangerous optimum range. Having a xeno scan is helpful and I was the daredevil that went in and got it for our wing. Salvation, could you work on a xeno scanner with better range next, please?
