Isn't the increase in thermal load a big disappointment? Usually the strategy in AX combat is to remain cold as much as possible, isn't it?
In-practice, has anyone noted how much more frequently they must now cool?
(trying to learn, not complain)
EDIT:
I must also ask: Is this really a new era in AX combat, compared to other weapons/tech options that are in use, or is it just a buff for the plasma charger that was only so-so, in effect adding a (now) comparably-useful energy weapon to the mix?
Heatwise, I think it compares favorably to the usual Gauss as long as you use mostly charged shots. If you spam uncharged ones, you'll heat up pretty fierce. It has always been keeping your ship cold while firing very hot weapons.
We took our wing out to mix out with randos in AXCZ, as is our habit, but this time with new toys. The PC performs pretty nicely. Gauss is still more powerful, but PC has more ammo when you again use predominantly charged shots. Hydra is hard work if you don't have enough gauss power, but everything else felt manageable. That is my initial assessment at least. Tried out those shard cannons too. I liked them as well.
Edit: Another AXCZ session. My AX FAS now has 3 chargers and I love the loadout. Turns out it
is possible to stay ahead of Hydra's regeneration and exert, but it requires being in the very dangerous optimum range. Having a xeno scan is helpful and I was the daredevil that went in and got it for our wing. Salvation, could you work on a xeno scanner with better range next, please?
