Predicted Animal Roster

Maybe it’s better to talk about non-ABC animals although this is subjective too. Roughly speaking ABC species are the obvious zoo animals or ‘charismatic megafauna’ a child could perhaps identify and the average zoo visitor would expect to see.

Lesser known animals might be species that don’t fit into this category although of course they’ll be more familiar to some of us than others.

I'll probably have mostly ABC animals that are expected to be in zoos because that will bring in the most money. I'll also add in animals that aren't know very well by the zoo guests for the educational benefit.

I like this idea (obviously) but also begs the question: how would you determine what animals are "lesser known"? It's kinda impossible to determine what counts as that, when everyone has a different interpretation depending on where they live in the world, and their base knowledge of animals.

I'll be completely honest I didn't realize Europe has a vast majority of animals that NA does (moose, beaver, etc), just as Eurasian subspecies, until people started talking about it here... Whereas that's obviously common knowledge for Europeans. Likewise one of my friends the other day "discovered" the badger and pine marten, and my response was "yeah... How'd you not know about those before??"

So it's kinda hard to say what animals are lesser known, since everyone is going to have a different interpretation of that

Very true! Honestly I think my best bet is just looking at comments on certain posts about animal species, and various websites, where people exclaim, "wow, I've never even heard of this animal!" I've been growing a decent list from that alone. Though I assume my list is still biased towards people living in Canada and the US, which was inevitable as I'm Canadian myself.... I've also been surprised now and then, for instance someone on these forums had never heard of Okapis before this game. So yeah, you're 100% right.

So the dataminers did actually a pretty good job! Just the Black rhino hasn't appeared in the game till now, I really hope to see it in the future though.

The black rhino wasn't datamined. There's a "rhinos" folder in the game, and the plurality implied that it would be used by more than just the Indian rhinoceros.

I would like to know if some Animals couldn't be finished until release and will come as a free DLC because some Animals where mentioned in Articles but don't appear in the Game

Cool. You got a link to the articles?
In this Article Alligators are mentioned Saltwater Crocodiles are also mentioned which means that they can't have mistaken the Saltwater Crocodiles.
I will search the Articles for the other Animals too

Edit: here are all 3 Animals mentioned

Thanks dude!
And these are very very specific to just be mistakes. I mean the Dik Dik is so obscure.
Baboon may have been confused with the macauqe?

Anyway maybe they'll be added later

I think it's just a mistake of mixing up animal names...
Somewhat similar looking animals are in the game...

While I agree the "Baboons" and "Alligator" could very easily be mistaken versions of the Mandrill and Saltwater Crocodile. I still can't really understand confusing the very specifically labeled "Dik Dik". The only animal that is sorta close is maybe a baby Springbok, but they are very distinctly different. Most people are unaware what a Dik Dik even is so to mention it by name just seems odd if it was just a generic gazelle. The other thing that threw me for a loop was the description of the "Baboons" enclosure. A "Dusty sand pit" wouldn't describe the needs of a Mandrill (which needs a lot of foliage and climbing structures, needing a lot of soil if anything) or a Japanese Macaque which needs snow. A sand pit would actually be a good descriptor for an actual Baboon, especially a Hamadryas baboon that lives in the desert.

At this point there is a lot of evidence to kinda say that decorations in the game indicating other species were just lazy research on part of whoever developed said pieces. If I am a 3D artist at Frontier and they tell me "Make a camel and a rhino sign" I'm just going to make signs for the first camel and rhino I see. The signs in the game show many errors. The camel sign is a Dromedary, even though we only got the Bactrian. The Rhino sign is a Black Rhino, even though we only got the Indian Rhino. The seemingly crocodile sign was labeled "Alligator", but similarly the Asian elephant sign is labeled "African Elephant".

If I had to guess, some animals that were initially planned were simply scrapped for DLC. There is too much evidence for certain animals to not exist. So while I'm "leaning" towards the article merely misidentifying animals, I could also just as easily see them playing an earlier build of the game with what were later found to be scrapped animals.

Thanks for writing this here. This let me believe even more that we will get this Animals sometime
