I'm planning on really starting to engineer my ships when 3.0 is released. I like the new changes because I'm more of a min/maxer and never really liked the random rolls. I've been slowly progressing through the engineers and now I'm stockpiling G4/5 mats. I've read that the Orrere 2B crashed ship is good, and I've visited one of the Tankers, but I was hoping for some more tips with finding the higher grade materials. Thanks.

Yeah, every time I'm down scavenging for Mats Planet-side, I cry a little each time I have to leave a bunch of Materials down there. This needs to hurry up! The fact I want the Chief comes second place to the extra Data/Mats storage.
The Conda at Orrere 2B was one of the most eeriest places I've visited... Especially after reading some story about someone hearing knocking and voices around there... *shudders* (friendly tip, ensure you get the - part of the coordinates correct, I was on the other side of the planet like a right plum for well over an hour before I realised)

Don't dump those! They have one of the highest exchange rates of any G5 mat in 3.0! -- I've got 135 of them which I deliberately collected after the Beta.
A LOT of the engineering mats can be found scattered around Dav's Hope... There are plenty of videos and guides about the place on the net and here on this forum. On example below.
