Preparing for PZ2 metawishlist

We also need to decide when we want to start the wishlist
Im of the opinion that we should wait for the dust to settle over what we think is the last dlc im thinking either january to start the new year or once console has reached completion. That way we know for sure nothing new is coming since we will likely get another financial report and multiple frontier unlocked.

On the subspecies, what if we allow the to pick from a closed list for the few species where it is relevant?
This is exactly the sort of arbitrariness that I've been arguing against. We're aiming for as clear of data as possible, and having arbitrary splits in vote between species and subspecies risks complicating the results.

So, did I understand correctly that this metawishlist won't be for whole PZ2, but exclusively for base game, and that there will be completely different list for DLCs?

I don't think that's been communicated very clearly. My impression was that this would be a list of new animals players wish to see in PZ2 without consideration of existing species.

we are still working out exactly what will happen but due to number of animals the base game will and add as well as impossibility of accurately predicting the format of planet zoo 2 so much of the wishlist will likely need to be redone as soon as the game releases anyway.
More than likely we will restart the list after the game releases due to having to change organisation systems and to avoid alot of disappointment with people who had their entire lists added so wont be able to participate further.

Now that you have mentioned it. I made a meta wishlist that'll be something for Planet Zoo for more DLC's at a time.

In regards to subspecies, I think I'd handle it similarly to the wild cats on the 25 animal wishlist. The overall count would be at the species level, with subspecies being tallied in parenthesis. So leopards could end up something like this for example:
Leopard (Amur: 20; African: 15; Sri Lankan: 6; Indian: 5; Arabian: 2; Indochinese: 1; Javan: 1)50

I feel the list should be started sooner than January if possible. Now might be our time to influence early planning stages. If PZ2 is Frontier's 2026 game, who knows how much of the roster they have a feel for already.

How will the decision regarding subspecies affect the dingo? I feel like due to the very complicated situation with its taxonomy, it should be treated as an exception.
when it comes to it im sure these rare cases will be a joint discussion or left up to the chosen taxonomy source of the group. Im of the opinion the dingo is its own species based on the latest research showing the completely wild new guinea highland dogs and the direct lineages the have with the domestic new guinea singing dogs and dingos.

everyone actually willing to work on the list have decided to not include subspecies so this discussion is over.
what you listed is how it has been treated in the past and is the problem because whilst it looks simple having people vote on subspecies ranking them as a total species vote split by subspecies it really isnt because then the list is full of subspecies which have to then be sorted to the appropriate species and sort through different naming convetions and disputed taxonomy.

A separate thread linked to the main meta-wishlist can be made for specific animals' subspecies and domestic breeds. It could be started simultaneously or later down the line by someone else.

I might have time for that one myself tbh.
So we wouldn’t do domestics on the main wishlist? While I get some don’t like it, I still think domestics have a spot in Planet Zoo.

Or would it be I can place “domestic cow” in my wishlist, but if I want the Watusi cow I would need to be on the domestics wishlist?

Yeah. And specially in the base game so they don't take up more slots later on 🤭😜

Yak (or other cool cattke) and more fowl would be fine though.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I think it would be both less work for us to manage and give a better estimate of how domestics should be prioritized.

I mean I understand why, but wouldn’t that also limit people’s lists? Granted, subspecies are also a tough situation so I understand it.

A domestic chicken could be one of hundreds of breeds, so individually bringing each choice down lower on the list.

Yeah, I was thinking people could just vote for a generic animal same with subspecies and their argue about which one separately, I think domestics should also be counted as separate to their wild versions e.g. you could vote for both wild boar and domestic pig and they would be two separate entries
