PvP Presumptive PvP'er

So, between you and me, since no one else is listening....I only just found out last month that you can actually target the thrusters of a ship. I'd seen all these people saying things like "target the FSD," "nuke the powerplant," and the like - and I thought, "What a bunch of clever role play!"

Then I accidentally right bumpered one time too many past the contacts tab and voila. "I've yet to get very good at it, but I least I know you can do it now" said the CMDR with an EXPERT rating in combat.:x

You can set a key bind to "target next subsystem" in the controls section and them just keep on mashing that button until you reach the module you want to kill.

Or as is more usual the module "after" the one you want. Then it's just a case of mashing the button frantically again several times, then slowing right down until you land on the power plant or what not.

While all the time manoeuvring for position and keeping one eye on the Comms for incoming cops.

Heheheh.. it took me a while to get the hang of sub-system targeting. It's amazing how much easier it makes those tough fights, or how much fun you can have doing it to NPC's.
I've used it to really discourage NPC bounty hunters from bothering me without killing them - take out their weapons, take out their thrusters and leave them adrift.
Give me a few months...I only just figured out how to do it.

Next thing you know, I'll be able to do actually target a subsystem in less time than it takes my opponent to melt all three rings of shields.

Then I'll be, you know, dangerous...and stuff.

First off, rep for calling your victims "customers." Hilarious. Two, I see your point regarding PvP code for having "crimes off." As I just said, it hadn't occured to me until this happened that it was a thing.

Well, if you were a PvPer, you'd know that. But you're not, so having "Crimes" on is the normal thing to do to protect yourself, no matter if from NPCs or other players, who, for all intents and purposes for you, are just NPCs with slightly higher typing skills.

Don't worry about that, maybe one day he'll learn that people who don't want to fight him have ways to avoid him. :)

Yeah....that's Advanced Level Pew. I'm more of Licks-the-Windows Remedial Level Pew.

But thanks!

Thing is, I could have avoided him all day long. Drop into normal space re-adjust to opposite heading, boost away and re-enter supercruise. He has to course correct to get in behind me, as soon as he makes the move, drop again. Or avoid the whole shenanigans, drop into normal space and high wake to another system. I just let him grab me because after about 10 minutes of cat and mouse - after about 5 minutes of sublight chasing - I wanted to see if the cat had any claws.

And it didn't. :)
You win, he can go get some milk and try to grow up.

I don't think he was worried about anything...as I said earlier, I feel like it was a "principles" thing. It was confusing to me, too, because I got the friend request and thought "Humph, good on him. PvP gets bested by a PvE player and wants to say 'thanks for the fight'" - or something along those lines. instead it's a string of nasty messages calling me naughty names.

If they were properly naughty names then you should/could report him as that really is against the rules.

Well done, and an amusing change to the more common griefer threads, a pleasure to read!

A phrase springs to mind from an old 70's-80's brit sitcom, "Cor, it ain't half hot Mum!", specifically from the lovely welsh Sgt Major:

"Oh dear, how sad, never mind, he is 'avin a bad day"!...

Dude immediately high wakes and sends friend request and subsequent messages about how I'm a lady part for having "report crimes" on and that...this was the presumptive part...."1v1 means no cops"

Assuming I'm not misinterpreting this part, don't forget to file a report for the abusive chat messages. Even if it doesn't disturb you personally, helping Frontier identify abusive individuals helps keep the game clean for everybody.

Eh, I can't be bothered. Besides, messages were sent over XBL, FDev don't have any say in that...and to be completely transparent, he used a cat emoji rather than the actual word.

Being a Yank who wassnae even borne then, alls I can say is, "Righto!"

I have crime on all the time. Even if I'm looking to kill someone. I'm not some honourable e-samurai I'm out to kill people! And I'll use whatever method at my disposal to do it. If I have to bait them and get 'backup' then so be it.
I'm often in un or lightly engineered cheap ships so I'll use what I can to get a kill when in the mood. If the hardened PvP'er can't accept that tough nuts my friend :p

So I'm farming data missions in Sothis/Ceos....I know, I know. But I can't be bothered anymore. Two years in game "just playing" and still don't have rank for a Corvette so I just decided to park it here until I do. 17% Post Captain, so almost there...anyhow.

Over the weekend, I take a follow-on mission to pop some pirate lord or the other for a couple million but it's at one of the planets about 135Kly's from the central star. So I start heading out that way only to notice a hollow triangle swoop around behind me...no worries, I'm in a fairly beefy Python but I'm rubbish at PvP combat so I'm hoping he leaves me be. He's definitely on my tail and following me, but I'm out pacing him. He finally catches up to me as I reach the 00:00:07 second mark on the planet and so I drop out of SC, wait, hop back into SC, he gets on my 6, hop out of SC.....the whole cat and mouse bit. This goes on for a fair few minutes and finally, he interdicts me and I decide, what the heck? Let's give ole boy a shot.

Only trouble is...as far as he's concerned...I have "report crimes" turned on. More on that in a second...

Conflict begins and I'm holding my own (managing not to get fragged), but not really doing much damage to him. Then the cops show up.

I'm sorry? I was PvE'ing myself silly when you had to go and chase me all over the bleeper blankingsystem....and now I'm supposed to have turned off "report crimes" too? Because apparently we're all out for a bit of PvP but just don't know it yet?

Am I missing something or am I just not blazing the correct trail?

If you asked for a fight then I would expect you to have crime reporting off; other than that it is completely up to you and nobody should tell you otherwise.

If u where randomly attacked there is no such thing as "PVP rules", especially in open, unless there actually arranged duel.

If someone attacks me randomly while not being wanted myself, who I might not like too much or not have them in my friend list, I care very litte about any "rules", and will use any advantage I can. Actually only times when I would not mind die to another cmdr, is when I had aranged duel to death, or if would fly suicide ship.
