Private Settlements

Dear Frontier Developments,

for some time now, I have been thinking about how to continue to enrich the game without having to make major changes to the game mechanics. Preferably with things that are already in the game and only need various adjustments.

The name of this expansion would be something like Expansion or Propagation.

Of course, Frontier would also get something out of it financially, because the players like to personalise themselves.

The stumbling block was the release of the fleet carrier interiors. This led me to think about another possible enrichment of the game:

Private Settlements

This settlement, based on the Odyssey settlements, would be limited to one per commander.

- The player places the settlement order and selects a permitted system with a planet that meets the on foot criteria in terms of temperature and gravity.
If it is game mechanically necessary, a planetary limit for settlements can also be introduced.

- After that, the player chooses the allegiance, his government type and the economy.

Here the player can choose between Agriculture, Extraction, Industrial and Research. This means that the player can only buy the corresponding structure type. This special building earns credits in the weekly tick depending on the addition.

How I imagine it:

Base Structure: (extra Room)

Command Center - Refuel/Refill/Repair
(Operations) - Redemption Office aka Contacts
(Security) - Pioneer Supplies
(Medical) - Search & Rescue Service
5.000.000.000 Cr. / 5.000.000 Cr.

200.000.000 Cr. / 1.750.000 Cr.
250.000.000 Cr. / 2.000.000 Cr.

The energy costs will be 1t Tritium per hour if the Tritium-storage is empty, the settlement goes offline.

Player settlements can have the status:
Active or Abandoned (upkeep payed yes or no)
Online or Offline (Energy yes or no)
Relocated

The relocation of a settlement has to be limited to a fix amount or a amount per time. Two per year or maximum 3 times.

So, how can Frontier make money with this feature? I see two ways.
First, by getting more players to switch to PC or buy the Odyssey DLC.
Second, by buying cosmetic customisations in the form of Arx like the Fleet Carriers. (Exterior, Interior and Weapon colour of the turrets.

What added value would this feature have?

There are certainly a large number of players who have a system and a planet that they particularly like. It would be an opportunity to offer players a home on a planet.
In terms of lore, it would also be the greatest expansion of humanity.

I hope you think my idea is great and so appealing that it might be implemented as early as 2023.

Unlikely, plenty of other stuff to work on before that, I would think that would be a last thing sort of implementation, after ELW and thick atmospheric worlds with proper life, there are also plenty of other base building threads you could reply to.

You think so? A private settlement in particular seems to me to be easier to implement because a lot of things are already in the game and don't have to be added separately.
Thick atmospheres and ELWs are more likely to come later.

What things? Just because an Odyssey settlement exists doesn't mean there is any mechanism in game to do the same for individual players to own settlements on planets, that's not how it works. We already have light atmospheric planets, so that's already a step towards thick atmospheric planets. Having individual planet side bases for players isn't something that already has a step towards, also we have huge mobile bases that can go anywhere in the galaxy, I can't see the desire for planetary bases to be anything more than a niche item, whereas everyone want landable ELW's!

I understand your point of view. I too would be happy with thicker atmospheres. At least up to 7.5 ATM, since the ELW with the densest atmosphere has 7.29 ATM, there will probably be a limit. Besides, the denser the atmosphere, the more difficult it is to enter.

Theoretically, flora and fauna would be possible with the Cobra engine, see Planet Zoo and Jurassic World, but I don't know to what extent that can be implemented in Elite, since I don't work at Frontier and don't know much about game programming.

I don't want to give a general answer to whether everyone wants landable ELWs, just like the topic of ship interiors.
My suggestion above is a supplementary idea, whether it is a niche product or not is not known at the beginning.
But perhaps not everyone wants a fleet carrier.
The list of wishes for Frontier is certainly long.

I'd be happy enough if it wasn't even private. In the lore a multi-billionaire decided to build an outpost at the highest point of the milky way (Rackam's Peak).

Us, CMDRs, being able to spend credits and time hauling stuff to get settlements built or upgraded would be a great next step.
