∞ probes?

Its the only probe fact worth knowing.
CMDRs don't need to know facts like they need a Detail Surface Scanner to even use probes, or once 90% of the body is mapped with probes it is considered completely scanned? I'm glad you don't write the manual ;)

If you want a simulation tailored to your requirements, make your own. You're clearly in the minority here.

I may well be in the minority. But I find it odd why you repeatedly need to declare other folks simply voicing their views as seemingly in the wrong? Even if it means concocting odd strawmen arguments? - "If you want a simulation tailored to your requirements" - We're discussing a minor bit of design here, so really? :)

As I've said many times, I'm absolutely fine with infinite probes, but for me it - with my prefered play style - it seems to be missing out on an opportunity.

Now, if you can't tolerate someone saying what their preference is, or what their views are, not sure what to say really... You've seemingly got your prefered outcome in the game, so what's your goal here? To stop people simply talking about something? Again... not sure what to say really...

Well he started the thread, so... probably not that.

Seriously?

Did you take note of the OP?

That I wrote no less?

This thread was a joke.

A cheap laugh to score some easy rep'.

That it evolved into this magnificent beast is the doing of others.

Pretty much all my posts here stick in line with the OP: Cheap laughs.

I'm a simple man.

Again, if what people have voiced isn't according to your likes or preferences, that's absolutely 100% totally fine.

But seriously, what is the point of such strawman posts as, "If you want a simulation tailored to your requirements, make your own. You're clearly in the minority here?"

I/we know we're seemingly in the minority. I/we know the game will almost certainly be infinite probes mechanics wise now. But why is it if people simply want to discuss what they would see as an interesting alternative you need to come in seemingly "bashing" them needless with, "If you want a simulation tailored to your requirements, make your own. You're clearly in the minority here?"

What is the aim of such posts?

I keep repeated this - I am fine with infinite probes. It's not a big thing to me. But I like the notion of finite probes. Simply, am I just allowed to discuss that?

Anyway, the game mechanic is seemingly as you want it? Can other folks please just discuss "what ifs" without the needless "comments"? Please?

The Beta is live now! I will check later tonigh, but if some of you have already access it would be nice to hear some feedback about the probes.

- Is it easy to completely scan a planet?
- Is it actually difficult and challenging to match the efficiency bonus?

We should also count how many probes we need to completely scan 5 planets, 2 gas giants rings and 6 moons.
If the number is below 50 then I'm still convinced we need 1000 restockable probes.
If the number is above 200 then infinite probes could make sense.

You can't probe gas giants.... luckily if you are a gas giant called Uranus!

That's been a question of mine actually - Are the probe burst sizes the same? Or do they scale up with bigger planets. eg: You might need 6 for a small planet, but needing 40 for a big one seems questionable... Just from a potentially boring mechanic POV. Especially as you need to get to 90% to achieve all or nothing as regards finding the POIs.

Guess we can find out now...

I remember Adam saying that they decided infinite because they couldn't decide a proper number since planets and gas giants would require a different number of probes because of the big surface difference.

But I may be wrong... Then in this case I replace gas-giants with rings.

It's my understanging from the livestream that they're not scalable. You need more probes for bigger planets

You can't? I remember Adam was asking... um... Adam on the stream something in the lines of: "what do the large gas giants require... around 25 probes?"

I remember something like that too, it's also true that a Gas Giant does not have a real surface to probe... but we will see it soon...

I thought you could only probe "solid" planets. There really isn't much surface detail on a gas giant!

Eeeek! That risks getting tiresome then. Need to test probing a big planet then...

You can probe the rings for sure. That was in the preview from Lavecon
I'm keen to see that (finding Hotspots)... But is that going to be enabled at the moment given the livestream for mining is not until Thursday?

I think I also remember them talking about how many probes it would take for a gas giant when explaining why they decided on infinite probes... I wonder if that was a slip and not something they had intended to mention yet...

It's not our problem.. They're paid to add content to the game. When they stop doing so they can close the ED project and develop a new theme park game

How does that apply to a free update like Beyond ?.

I prefer simulations to games generally... But each to their own...

As I said earlier in the thread, if we hit the probe efficiency bonus we need to get audio something like this :) :-

Didn't you quit ED quite a while ago ?. It detracts from you arguing your way is better, as it clearly didn't work for you.
